“oceanfront getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

My husband and I spent a Saturday night there recently and were fortunate enough to book an oceanfront room. The rooms seem as though they have been remodeled since the last time we were there and were very nicely done. You can not beat the location and watching the sunrise was a nice bonus. The room was clean and nicer than we even expected.

Thank you for taking the time to review Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort. A majority of the oceanfront rooms have been completely renovated and the ones that have not been renovated, still have upgraded carpeting, bedding, drapes and TVs. The housekeeping department takes pride in providing our guests with rooms that are neat and clean. I will make sure to pass on your compliments. We look forward to hosting you in the future!

Been to wells area a bunch of time but never stayed at this resort right on the water. Room was smallish to be expected but was clean And up to date which was great. Having a slider right out to the ocean can't be beat and the room was clean and the staff were friendly and attentive. It's not cheap and has minimum stays in season but really it's an experience

Thank you for taking the time to review the property. There are some oceanfront that are smaller than others, but a majority have two queen beds and the other 6 have king beds. Our housekeeping staff takes pride in assuring that all of our rooms are very clean. I make sure to pass on your compliments to the rest of our staff. We look forward to hosting you in the near future.

Our family stayed at Forbes cottage.
Pros- our family was able to get into house early(12:00) instead of 4:00. It was a beautiful house with a lot of room for the nine people we had staying there. They provided sheets and blankets as well as kitchen items to use. There was a washing machine, dryer, dish washer, island with bar stools, small table and a large kitchen table. We had to bring our own towels (bath and kitchen), dish soap laundry soap etc. There was a large wrap around porch that had a patio set as well as a couple of other chairs. Around the other side of the house there was another small deck with a grill and two chairs.
The maintenance people did come right over to fix a couple of things we noticed were broke after the first day we were there.
They have a nice pool and hot tub. The pool was never overly crowded and it was a nice place to go due to the very cold ocean temperature.

Cons- There is no air conditioning in the down stairs bedroom or one of the upstairs bedroom. This becomes a problem on hotter nights when doors are closed and there is no air circulation. The downstairs bedroom has a skylight in the ceiling and a slider door in the room. By 5 am the sun is beating in the room and will wake you up. The sun heats up the room in the morning too and the room becomes uncomfortably warm.
Ocean is very close to walk too. The only problem is that the ocean spot right in front of the house is not the best. It is very rocky and we ended up walking about 10 minutes down the beach to find a better spot. The house does allow you to see and hear the ocean from the outside front deck.

There are two large picture windows on the side of the house. One in the dining room and one in the living room. There was a shade on the one in the dining room, but not on the window in the living room. Pulling the shade down helped to keep the house cool during the day as well as helped with privacy with neighbors being right on top of you. The hard ware was up for the shade in the living room, but no shade was installed.

Parking- there is only room for two cars for the upstairs unit. The additional cars need to pay to stay in an overflow lot next door for $10 a day. This lot is not a guaranteed spot, any person heading to the ocean that day can park there. This mean you can pay to park there, head out for the afternoon and not have a spot when you get back. This overflow lot cost should be part of the fee you already pay for the house.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Forbes Cottage. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.
During the summer time there only a few days where air conditioning is needed on Wells Beach, unfortunately your stay must have been during one of those time periods. We do plan on adding split unit air conditioning to the whole house in the near future, which should solve the problem.
The shade issue is going to be addressed. It seems that the shade had broken and was taken down to be fixed but the parts had never arrived, I apologize for the oversight.
There are only two parking spots available in all of the cottages that we own, as there is not enough space during the peak season. There is no way to include the cost in the house because a majority of guests travel with two cars, and the hotel does not own the overflow lot. The overflow is perfect if you bring additional cars and plan on leaving them stationary for a majority of the time. During the evening and early morning hours there is no problem to find a spot. If you do have trouble finding a spot during the peak hours, please come to the front desk so that we may assist you.

it was great to be right on the beach. The pool was nice and relaxing! parking was great and we didn't have to walk too far to get to our room. The room was very comfortable and we were glad to have internet connection. The staff was very courteous and friendly! We have stayed here several times in the past but the beachfront lodge was the best! See you next year

Room Tip: Choose the beachfront lodge because you're right on the beach

Thank you for taking the time to review Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort, and we are truly happy that you enjoyed your stay. We are constantly looking at ways to improve the experience for our guests. The addition to the elevator in the Driftwinds building has been a long time coming, and we are happy that you were able to take advantage of it. Looking forward to hosting you in the near future!

We recently returned from a four day stay at Lafayette's in Wells, Maine. We stayed in the Oxcart Lane section. The rooms in this section are not updated, but are always clean and well equipped. The updated bathroom is nice, but should have a ceiling fan installed for moisture issues. I have one complaint and one other suggestion. The beds need replacing. They were very hard and uncomfortable. I would suggest a microwave be put in the room. I am not sure if the stairs at the entrance to the beach are the property of the Hotel/Resort or the Town of Wells, but they are in need of repair and rocks should be removed at the base of them. It is a hazard for elderly or for people with small children. Our daughter had her son in a stroller and it was very difficult to get it and him up and down the stairs. Maybe a ramp could be built on one side to accomodate elderly, disabled or families with little children. The pool, the employees and the rest of the resort was terrific. Thank you again for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Ledgeview are nice.

Thank you for taking the time to review the property. We are constantly striving to update and refurbish the property. Since this is a seasonal building we do not have fans, rather there is a small window to allow for ventilation in the bathrooms. We do plan on adding microwaves, however we must first accommodate for the extra electricity in the infrastructure. Many beds are replaced every year as part of plan of constant refurbishment. Again, thank you for your input and we look forward to hosting you in the near future.

Great little resort with access to the beach. However, the balcony rooms need to fix the railing; two rows of pipe railing is not safe for kids of any age. Fix that before something bad happens. Otherwise, for the value not too bad.
