“Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

We just spent a week at Village by the Sea and had a fantastic time. Our condo unit was spacious and so comfortable it was like being home. We had everything we needed in the condo, including a washer and dryer, dishwasher, toaster oven, microwave...you name it we found it waiting for us. It was a good base for setting out on Maine adventures from every morning and returning to every evening. No traffic noise to speak of from busy Route 1. Views of the Atlantic from the east facing windows. Friendly staff. Close to the beach, on the trolley line for shopping and sightseeing. We've stayed at Village by the Sea in the past and are happy to be back with them again. Loved being able to go online to preview the condo units and check availability so we could select the perfect one for our needs-definitely an asset!

Room Tip: Go online and preview the condo units to find one that exactly fits yours needs!

There was 8 in our party. We were all impressed by the size of the units. Weather could have been better, but didn't mind being inside. Had a wonderful time at the restaurant to the right of the property as you exit. Three generations together it was wonderful.

My brother in-law had his wedding this past weekend. We booked this place back in January. All of my dealings with the hotel over the were good. They were competent and even changed my dates without issue. I needed a 2 bedroom unit because we had several others staying with us.

After driving nearly 8 hours and arriving to 90+ degree temps in Maine, all we wanted to do was check-in, cool off, unpack, and go grab dinner. Mind you check-in time was 3:00pm and we did not arrive until 6:00pm. We checked in and went to the room...you'd think they would have the room cooled down...it was literally 100 degrees in the room. Their was no central air AND the window unit was located in the main living room but not in the bedrooms. We expected to have AC throughout. When we called the front desk we asked to speak to a manager. There was no manager on site...only a young teen girl working the front desk.

She offered to move us to a similar room with still no AC in the entire room. When I told her this was unacceptable, she told me to keep the bedroom doors open and that would surely cool the rooms. Her final suggestion was box fans. At this point I hung up the phone and sprinted to the office. I told the girl to find a manager, she goes to the back room and returns with Jill her manager on the phone. I explained to Jill that we were here for a wedding, had booked the room well in advanced, and were disappointed with the AC situation. Jill reviewed the options offered to me and when I declined she became frustrated and said " this is not going to be a good fit, so I am just going to refund your money and will call the Hampton inn for you"

This is top on my worst customer service experiences ever. She completed mishandled the situation, took absolutely no responsibility for the AC issue, and when I was not satisfied with her solution, instead of going the extra mile to try to do right by us she basically gave up and kicked us out as if we were an inconvenience to her.

On top of this there was water damage and broken windows. The bride stayed here and the shower broke on the morning of her wedding day. Thank goodness the fine establishment next door- The Elmwood- had wonderful accommodations and the bride came to our room there to shower.

This place sucks...the staff suck, rooms suck, and they are overpriced. Do yourself a big favor...go next door to the elmwood. The rooms are much nicer, staff is friendly and competent, and the price was cheaper!

Thank you for your honesty in explaining that you arrived at our property already frustrated from a grueling 8 hour drive. It must be difficult driving in hot weather with kids in tow and that level of stress on the road can certainly cause tempers to flare. It is with regret that you checked into a unit that was not fully cooled – 94 degree weather in Maine is highly unusual for spring. I understand your frustration with a unit not fully cooled; however, you were offered a similar unit like the one you booked which was fully cooled and did have two built in a/c units like you wanted – one in the bedroom and one in the living room. You chose to decline that solution – a perfectly viable solution which met all your requirements. These multiple a/c units would have provided conditioned air throughout the entire unit for all rooms similar to central air. Instead you chose to rebuff that offer and remain in the original unit with only one a/c. Your choice prompted a secondary solution to use fans to circulate the conditioned air throughout the entire unit.
I feel we offered viable solutions to your situation, but perhaps there may have been other unrelated issues going on. Reviews about other establishments from your trip advisor user name reveals a similar theme. And your use of foul language at the desk in front of your children and directed at my staff is something which I could not tolerate. When you made the final decision to rebuff all our solutions and verbally attack my staff with foul language, my only alternative was to make sure we could find another place where you would be happy. Refunding your money and finding an alternate location seemed to be the only alternative.
I am glad that you found a place where you could be happy.
Regards,
Jill.

Good central location. Large living space. Fun time. Nice indoor pool. Best stay in off season. Would recommend you stay on top floor if you have NO children. Walls and floors are like paper thin. My stay was very noisy from above.

The facilities were very generous and comfortable, but our stay was tempered by the poor weather -- overcast, cold for the season (47), and intermittent rain and thunderstorm. But we guess that's just Maine. We have been to Wells before, so we didn't take advantage of the tourist sites, but dining and shopping were fine. We were not told about the free newspaper daily or access to internet (if there was one) in the lobby or business service area.

Room Tip: Get one of the suites in another building up front with a better view of the ocean. We were too far...

Driving by, we noticed the Village by the Sea sign that said suites & decided to stop. We were pleased to see the size of the condo-huge, with 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, open living room & dining room, with a cathedral ceiling & skylight. We decided to stay 4 nights and were so glad we did. The view of the tidal salt marsh, the sound of the birds, the peacefulness, all made for a relaxing time. With Dunkin Donuts & Congdon's across the street, Hannaford's Supermarket nearby, and many restaurants, we never worried about mealtimes. We certainly will return in the future!

Room Tip: 3rd floor, building #4 has an unobstructed view of the tidal salt marsh with the ocean off in the di...

VBTS is the BEST deal I have ever received from a condo/hotel/timeshare/beach house type facility. Off season they have fantastic deals - so get on their email list. The units (we've stayed in 4 separately) are all HUGE and well decorated and stocked with every kitchen item you could think of. TVs in every room, good wi-fi, fantastic coffee provided. The French TV station always makes us feel like we are someplace exotic. We stayed here last Dec. during a huge snow storm and staying in the condo was still bliss. Can't say enough about how much we love it there.

Room Tip: 1st floor units feel HUGE because of the layout - with privacy enhanced by distance between bedrooms...
