Description: SpecialtiesExperience where the locals eat! Captain's Fresh Idea Restaurant was founded in 1987 with the goal in mind to serve fresh food good enough to be called "Wicked Good." Customers are welcome to come in and be seated in our comfortable dining room or screened in deck. We also have a speedy take-out window if you would like to take your meal to go, or would like to sit outside on one of our picnic tables. Our takeout window also has a stocked ice cream diary bar where you can be sure to find something sweet. If you still have the room after eating our generous portions of food you may want to consider polishing off the meal with a homemade dessert. Choose from the homemade blueberry crumb cake, gingerbread, strawberry shortcake, or fruit pies.Captain's Fresh Idea is a family restaurant so kids are welcome to come and eat from our children's menu.So come on in, stop by, and say hi. We're easy to find on Route 1, Waldoboro ME. Look for the Red Roof.HistoryEstablished in 1987Owner Gary started working in the restaurant industry since he was a child. Wife and co-owner Becky also grew up in hospitality service industry. They took their love of cooking and quality food to create a restaurant where locals and tourists alike can sit down and feel like a member of the family.

“Casual dining for great lobster”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Just had lunch here! The lobster roll basket was delicious. Came with excellent homemade potato salad. Good service, too. Loved it. Would certainly stop here again.

“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

I knew we had made a mistake when the "fresh squeezed lemonade" at $3.79 a glass was from a powdered mix, with a lemon wedge squeezed on top for good measure. In light of that, I specifically asked if the clam chowder was homemade, and mentioned that I'd rather skip it if it were from a can. The waitress assured me that the chef made it fresh daily. The chowder that arrived was clearly canned, so I politely sent it back and had it taken off the bill. I was annoyed they had lied. Our whole clams, fries, and lobster roll were acceptable but not even close to the best we've had. All in all, this was the worst $50 lunch for two I can ever recall having. I recommend passing this place and heading a few miles to Rockland where the food scene is far better. We were trying to keep from going too far out of our way, and definitely regret it.

“New favorite place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We've lived in the area for over 30 years and this was never on our radar, just drove on by. Because we were going to a play in Waldoboro, I searched for nearby restaurants and this came up with great reviews. So soon old, too late smart! This place is great! The lobster rolls were the best we've had this season. Loved the fried green bean appetizer and blueberry desserts too. Won't drive by it again!

“Fresh!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This place was great. The staff were nice. It was clean. Their scallops were super fresh and they had a nice kid's menu. We thought it was a real find for the price.

“Third Best Lobster Roll in Maine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Over the weekend hubby and I sampled several lobster rolls across Maine. The one from Captain's Fresh Idea placed 3rd. The lobster chunks were smaller than those at our top two picks (Duo's and Libby's) and the dressing was laid on a little more thick than we care for (we like a very lightly dressed lobster roll). Also the pricing was $3+ higher here than at our top two picks. Overall, an acceptable place to stop if you're passing by (you can't really mess up lobster), but if you're going to be continuing north on Rt 1 to Rockland I suggest you hold out for Duo's or if you're continuing south on Rt 1 to Brunswick I suggest you hold out for Libby's.
