“Not what I expected ... much better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2011 via mobile

A local referred us to this charming little cafe. The crab cakes were light, but full of crab. The haddock chowder was excellent. Don't miss the blueberry pie (ask to have it with raspberry sauce. We came back for dinner- also very good. My father had the quail. Tasty!!

“Over- priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011 via mobile

Are here for dinner on a Sunday night. Service was pleasant if not a bit forgetful. ( no bread plates, wrong description of a dish...)

Prices were comparable to NYC prices and food was nicely presented but lackluster. I would try breakfast, but no going back for dinner.

“It doesn't get any better than this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

Imagine you've stepped back into a mid-America cafe in the fifties, complete with screen door. Now imagine you are eating the best steak with Bearnaise sauce that had ever graced your mouth any place on the planet. That's the Thomaston Cafe. Everything is superbly done. We eat there often as we are residents of Maine half the year. They're open for dinner only on weekend, but breakfast and lunch are also great. Might not be the place to propose, unless of course, you can outcook them, which I doubt.

“A really nice small-town cafe!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

We had breakfast here twice in the last two days, and the Cafe had a great feel to it. The food ranged from really good to pretty good. The Wild Mushroom Hash and the Haddock Cakes were both really good; my Sunday Brunch Crabcakes with eggs were only pretty good - I don't understand why they didn't put hollandaise sauce on them - they were a bit dry. We had 9 people at our table today, and the place was quite crowded, so our waitress was understandably overwhelmed. But the service yesterday was excellent, so all's well. We'll definitely make this a regular stop for us and any guests we might have!

“Best pancakes ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2010

We enjoyed breakfast at the Thomaston Cafe on a recent visit to Maine to visit a friend who lives in Thomaston. On her recommendation I ordered the pancakes (I had the "special" with cranberries and walnuts). They were on the pricey side, but absolutely delicious! Also pricey was the optional "real" maple syrup ($2 - but imitation syrup was out of the question!). The service was friendly and efficient, and the setting was perfect for a small town cafe.
