“Tourist Trap-Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I recently visited Cod End on a family vacation and was very disappointed. While it was great to sit out on the dock and the view was pretty the prices were high and portions rather small. While other places in the area were chargin between 3.99-6.99 lb for lobster they were chargin 16.99lb! We ordered a seafood basket for somewhere around $20+/- and basically got a basket of fries with a few scallops, a few tiny shrimp and 2 small pieces of fish. I ordered corn on the cob and when I opened the foil, it had sand on it. When I questioned it, the answer was" we can give you another, but it will probably be the same, we cook them with teh clams". Sorry, No, I do not want sandy corn. There are so many lobster in the rough places to eat in Maine, this is surely not one that I will return to!

“upscale lobster shack”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

Most of the lobster shacks that line mid coast Maine serve up very tasty lobster, all cooked in giant steamers, at reasonable prices; the reason to pay a few more dollars at Cod End is for the lovely views of Tenant's Harbor and the islands. This place stays open longer, so you get to linger after sunset and watch the sky turn from orange tones to blue-black, with silhouettes of boats gently bobbing in the distance. Truly lovely. It can get a tad chilly on the wharf after dark. Pack a light sweater or fleece.

Cod End offers a wider selection than most of the many lobster shacks that dot the coast, but the star here is the lobster, hence the 4 stars. The other choices vary; fish in the fish and chips is mediocre; chips are deliciously greasy. The desserts are homemade. Haven't tried them, but the blueberry pie looks very tempting. Last season they also offered oysters, fresh from the nearby Pemaquid Peninsula.

Cod End connects to a fish market, which is 5 stars. Everything is same day fresh. The staff is very helpful and will tell you when each item came in. If it's not busy, they will even shuck a small oyster order.

“Good, sometimes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We have been going to Maine for years and LOVE stopping at Cod End. The last few years, things have been spotty. I got a fish chowder that was basically melted butter and cream with a few hunks of shell fish.
You will find classic Maine coast atmosphere- wharf side dining on picnic tables, lobster boats dropping their haul, sail boats bobbing in the harbor - and very fresh food. Lately, you will also find long lines, and service that can be slow.
The meals are not as cheap as one might expect, but at its best, well worth it. Great Maine lobster!

“Good fresh seafood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

Informal setting, place order at window and pick up to eat at picnic tables. Good fresh fried seafood, nothing fancy but good food.

“The best lobster you will ever have!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

Many many friends and family agree this is the best spot for lobster in Maine. Significant other states top 2 meals ever had! Best lobster hands down ever had! Typical no frills place indoor and outside seating. Food is always good (other than lobster we only have sides :)). Don't walk run to this place! Thank u Cod End as always we will be back again next year!
