“A lovely country pub with great restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

My partner took me to the The Frog as a surprise birthday present. We were impressed with the size of the bedroom (room 1) and v comfy bed. Also part of the bedroom had a sofa and flat screen tv and a selection of magazines. Bathroom was large - just lacking a shower! Room quiet even though above the pub and didn't hear any noise from the neighbouring room either. My partner was impressed with the selection of ales available. Lovely roaring open fire in the bar area. Excellent menu and very good quality of food, certainly a step above your normal pub food for sure - my main course of chicken stuffed with lobster was very good. Excellent breakfast in the morning. Good walking from The Frog, nice pubs also in Freith (The Yew Tree) and Turville (Bull and Butcher).

we have used this pub for over 20 years and it has always been special. The menus are fantastic and varied haddock pancakes are to die for...
The team at the frog are a credit nothing is too much trouble and you can ask anything even when they are busy.
The bar has a good selection of beers and a excellent rioja (my boss ladies favourite) more whiskeys than you could drink. Again a excellent host.
A big thank you to Jim,Noel, Callum and the whole team
a special cuddle to Belle the pub dog who is adorable.
Many many thanks for a well priced excellent food good selection of drinks and a fabulous atmosphere.

I have been coming here for 25 years but only once or twice a year at best. It just gets better. Very welcoming barman and nice waitresses. Always recognises the face but like me cannot remember the name. The fire is roaring, there are different groups of people enjoying the evening, the restaurant is ot too busy but respectable. I have enjoyed a beatiful dinner of local pheaant breasts pan fried with lardons, onions and an excellent rich gravy. Perfect. I have not stayed here so cannot comment on the rooms.
Thank you Frog still a special place and getting better.

This traditional village inn makes no pretence at being anything else but that with its welcoming bar, open fire, good food and as so often happens, basic accommodation!
Set in the idylic beechwooded chiltern hills which (particularly in autumn) cannot be beaten for breathtaking scenary, one's arrival at The Frog adds to the gratification of living in this green (or for us russett) and pleasant land.
The menu looked very good and for most of us delivered accordingly, but the rather cramped accommodation, dodgy plumbing and plasterwork made the B&B terms more understandable.
Our delightful rugby mad hosts and their enthusiastic staff however left us with the feeling that we were glad we went and that they may be seeing us again to savour the next Chiltern seasonal offering.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 & 4 are significantly bigger than No 2

Booked into the Frog for dinner - last visited 15 years ago and wanted to renew the aquaintance. Was definately the grumpy barman's night in as the greeting was less than welcoming. The menu was good - lots of choice. Starter woodpidgeon in filo pastry inspired and nicely presented althought the black pudding was gloopy and tasted odd. Had liver for mains - very good again served with black pudding which was not the best - coming from the north east I am a great expert on black pud. The waitress was on her own and forgot to bring our wine (overpriced and did not taste like Merlot) we had to ask for it. The bar bill was incorrectly totalled (price of wine was incorrect) but by then we were past caring. The food tempted us to make it a regular visit but the welcome and ambience did not. We would have liked a more friendlier approach. Bar was empty when we left!

Called into this pub after a visit to the Chiltern Winery, for a bite to eat, Lovely cosy pub, open fire, even in late September - the food was very good and very tasty, the main restaurant was like sitting in someones front room from the 1940's Overall, There was no grumpy bar man, must of been his day off !

Beer, Rebellion, well kept. Bar snacks very average. Bacon and cheese mushroom baguette: bacon not much taste, had not been freshly cooked. i suspect the whole thing had been microwaved. Result? a gloopy sickly mess. The salad that came with it: bought in cole slaw; one tomatoe, tasteless (admittedly not much they could do about that) rocket green salad, with no dressing! Partner had sausage baguette. The sausage was of poor quality and tasteless. Why can't these places which are well frequented, despite being out in the sticks, buy in fresh quality bread and rolls and use local bacon and local sausages? Why can't the salad have a home-made dressing? It's not rocket science (no pun intended). I know it's down to profit margins. But instead of making at least £4 pounds profit on a snack that costs £6.50 why not buy in quality ingredients and make £3 profit.
