“What I expected - Clean,Inexpensive and Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

This was our 3rd stay here and the experience was much like we expected. The room are very basic with few extras, but we stay here because it's inexpensive and we really spend little time in the room. We stayed in room # 11 for 3 nights and the only issue was a dog in the room next to ours barked late at night due to some fireworks. The breakfast is basic and filling. The hotel is right on the harbor and a very short walk into town which is great at night to pick up dinner. I would stay here again on our next visit to Acadia.

What a great anniversary trip we had to Southwest Harbor. If you're looking for a quiet trip away from the more commercialized scene of Bar Harbor I can't think of a better place than Southwest Harbor. The Harbor View was exactly what we had hoped for. We stayed in the main lodge second floor, which was clean, spacious and had a fabulous view of the harbor and boats. There are also cabins of varying size for longer stays. We saw families enjoying breakfast on their personal deck in the morning and cookouts at night. Nothing fancy here, but it reflects the beautiful simplicity of the Maine coast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The Harbor View Motel is also located just a short walk from several wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, etc.. We'll definitely be back.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant on what we would get in regards to Harbor View. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a South Room #8, which had a little deck and faced the cottages. A quick step out on the deck and you had a gorgeous view of the harbor. The motel was an easy walking distance to the village and excellent restaurants. It was also a short drive to many great hiking trails and Acadia NP activities. The rooms were clean, nothing fancy but a comfortable bed, small TV (which you wont have time to use because of the wealth of activities in the area), desk and dresser. Bathroom had a shower. we found the office staff to the point, but very helpful. Breakfast was continental, but had a very nice selection of FABULOUS blueberry muffins, cereal, oatmeal. Bagels and English muffins. You can walk down to the water from the main stairs in front of the office and the views are gorgeous. We would definitely stay again!

Waterfront inn, motel, and cottages in a peaceful village, an easy walk to several good restaurants and stores. Room 203 in the main building was ideal for a partly rainy stay, with a full, direct view of the harbor, a comfortable couch and good reading light for the dull days and a private deck for the good ones. Good-sized room; clean and comfortable. The place shows some wear, but it's well maintained.
Motel rooms do not face the water.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building have direct water views.

Make a reservation by calling the hotel and have a map of the property in front of you (it's on the website) so you can discuss room and cottages that may be available. Motel rooms are in the large building and come with a continental breakfast (not great, but you can sit on the porch overlooking the harbor as you munch your bagel.) Stayed in Room 302, which can sleep 4 on two single beds and one double bed. The room is airy and sunny with skylights and a picture window overlooking the harbor. Other rooms come with decks to sit out on. The hotel has a collection of menus from all over the island and the staff are quite helpful in making recommendations. The cottages are rented out by the week and include small kitchens. SW Harbor puts you about 20 minutes away from Bar Harbor, but is very quiet. Easy access to Acadia and the hiking trails and carriage roads for walking, biking, etc. The hotel portion does remain open for the winter for those who would like to enjoy the park by cross country skiing.

Room Tip: Get the property map from the website, then call for a reservation and discuss which ones have good...

After a long day visiting Acadia we drove in to Southwest Harbor looking for a place for the night. If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton type hotel keep driving...but if you want a clean room at a great value and awesome view stay here. This is definitely a old seaside village hotel. I forget the room number we stayed in but it was upstairs and had two beds with sitting area. The sitting area had a huge window that overlooked the bay full of fishing boats. Breakfast is in included that consisted of muffins, fruit, cereal, etc. Would stay again.

From the deck of room 201, the view of the harbor was just beautiful. Layout of the room was great, too,as you could see the view from the bed, the sitting area, and then out to the deck. We woke up to the sunshine streaming in the glass doors, and boats in the harbor; sat on the deck late at night listening to the ducks and looking at a star-filled sky. What a relaxing vacation. Re: smoke, we did smell it, as 201 is right above the office, but it was not overwhelming and it did not permeate our room. Staff was accommodating and helpful and the breakfast was a nice extra. Recommended: QuietSide Cafe for the best blueberry pie in the world and friendly owners.

Room Tip: 201 has a fantastic view.
