I'm pleased to say that I live in this beautiful area of southern Maine. I hope this review helps
the visitors and locals learn about this historical lighthouse. There are 6 lighthouses in
Portland Harbor. Of the 6 Maine lighthouses, Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is the only one you can actually go up inside, (a rare treat for sure, there is a lovely view at the top of Portland
Harbor). On weekends they put signs out to direct you to the lighthouse, the access to
it is located in South Portland on the Southern Maine Community College campus. You can walk out to it on the jetty. They are also open for private tours, such as bike tours, bus tours
and special events. I enjoyed the tour I took very much. It's a wonderful opportunity to go up inside it and learn about how the lighthouse keepers actually lived back in the late 1800's. The
tour guides for Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse are all volunteers and they are extremely knowledgeable about the history of lighthouses in Maine. I would recommend this to anyone. Cost is only $5.00, kids are free but must be a certain height to enter the lighthouse.
