“Review from a Bride”

Captain A. V. Nickels Inn

I heard out about the Inn from an ad my mother saw in a magazine. What I found convenient about the Inn was that I could make all of my decisions with one person. It felt personable as I made choices and plans for the big day. On the day of the wedding however, things were not exactly as they were "confirmed" a few weeks before. Example: We had talked about having three bars open during the reception, and on that day they only had one open. Now this may not seem like a huge tragedy but some of my guests had to wait in line for over 45 minutes for a drink. Also, we had talked about corsages for the grandparents, and they didn't end up having them done for them that day.
I felt nervous and anxious the night before because I wasn't exactly sure how the ceremony would go. I also was a little let down with the quality of the flowers. They did not keep them in a cool enough room and some of them were beginning to brown. The ceremony was beautiful (we lucked out- the day was gorgeous). The food was good, but wasn't very warm (need to work on the buffet!!) . I was happy we decided to bring in our own DJ. The cake was the best part!!
In the grand scheme of things I enjoyed my wedding day, however that is in most part due to the DJ we hired and the open bar. If you are flexible and are looking for a simple wedding planning process I would recommend the Inn (price is good too). I do not recommend this venue for brides who would like a lot of control over their wedding.

The inn has been renovated nicely and is well decorated, but in my opinion over-done. I feel it needs to be toned down a, to give it a more authentic feel, because as it stands it is, in my opinion, quite
gaudy. While there is something to be said for elegance and good taste, they clearly have gone over-the-top in order to attract the attention of tourists. The food is on the gourmet side, and prepared
well, although it certainly isn't anything exceptional.

“We found the ultimate place for a wedding or family reunion weekend!”

Captain A. V. Nickels Inn

We stayed at the Capt. Nickels Inn while visiting family in the area, and were simply charmed. A nice variety of rooms, all with interesting furnishings, tastefully assembled. We stayed in the "bridal suite". which has its own balcony with a view of the water and large fountain of the master bedroom, a sitting room, with kitchenette, and adjoining bedroom with twin beds. There are rooms to gather in, rooms to escape to, and always something to stimulate thought and conversation.

We stayed for breakfast, which was superbly delicious and original, severd by our gracious and friendly hostess, Sherri, along with a wealth of useful information.

We found ourselves looking for a reason to have a family gathering, just to take advantage of the indoors and outdoors, and all the ranges of intimacy the Inn offers. The Ballroom is absolutely perfect for a wedding, and nicely appointed with facilities for in-house music, or live music. If you have a wedding there, please invite us!

The inn is amazing with great ambiance and food. I absolutely loved staying here with my girlfriend who decided at the last minute to take a road trip through the coast of Maine. We had a good time the service was friendly and timely. Thanks!!

This is the best inn in Searsport! I frequently drive through this area on business and decided to stay the night. The place has a lot of class and is very clean. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend getaway or sophisticated evening. Kudos!
