My title is a little strong....But what can I say....The initial exposure is quite good, as you are rapped up in the atmosphere of the old hotel.Close enough to the beach to hear the waves breaking,if the wind is co-operating. Wonderful salt smell from the Atlantic ocean!
Now to the meat...I want to preface this rating by saying two things.. One...They just opened for the season and are in the process of getting the bugs out of the service...Not that it was that bad....But you figure that with the price that you pay for most things, that you expect these things to be already worked out. Number two....We were a party of around thirty-eight,and I'm sure that didn't help. Although, they new this well in advance of our arrival.
It seemed to me that the wait staff was running around like a bunch of ants, not knowing who was doing what.Chalk that up to the break-in period.Everybody was very pleasant and,I feel were doing the best they could.
Now to the food...We arrived on a Friday afternoon, and coffee, cheese and crackers were available readily. The evening dinner was from the house menu, and the pub menu was available as well.
The menus,in my opinion, where pricey for what was on the menu. I opted for the fish and chips,as three others opted for the same.We waited forty-five minutes for the food to arrive...Chalk that up to the thirty-eight people present.I'm figuring...Cold food....Well...much to my surprise...Boiling hot!!One for the good guys!
Breakfast the following morning was quite good.Off the menu, and hot and tasty.Lunch is not served, and you are on your own.At the end of the street,is a small market with lovely sandwiches.
The evening came and we settled in for an Italian buffet that was set up for us as part of the package, as we are an Italian family, salad, cold cuts, olives, cheese, etc. The main course was chicken parm, meat balls. The chicken parm, unfortunately, was under-cooked,to the point of being raw.I alerted the owner and made her aware of the problem, and she promptly took care of it. Unfortunately, too late.
I'm going to stop here, because I feel that if there were less people, that the situation probably wouldn't of happened...... Would I go back? I would have to think about it.
