“Some Good Some Not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Nice old Building. Very quaint. Close to the beach. Could be very romantic. Rooms are small and old but nice. Bathrooms are small. Some rooms only have shared bathrooms so make sure you know what you are getting. No tv's in the room and no A/C, so if it's hot you will not be pleased. Fan's are in each room which is nice. The restaurant wasn't open for dinner. There are no bars or restaurants that are even close.

Just loved this beach although small in size it more than made up for its size, this jewel has been hiding from me didn't even know it was there. I would definately go back again next year.
The rooms were not big, no AC but it really didn't matter as being near the ocean there was a breeze at night. The only negative thing I would have to say is the showers could be tricky especially if the few showers were being used at the same time hard to control the temperature. I got to master that rather quickly after a few shocks of cold water.

The staff were amazing always helpful very friendly and going out of their way to be most kind.
The food was delicious, well presented and the desserts all I can say if you go be sure to cheat one night during your stay, you definately won't be disappointed at Garofolo's Italian Restaurant.

The beach was sandy not overly crowded and the water I guess it being in a bay was so incredibly warm what a surprise. I didn't have any problem going in. The people there were so friendly never met such lovely folks, always going out of their way to say hello and help in any way. We even were invited to a turkey dinner at the clubhouse and met many of the permanent residents. So would highly recommend Higgins Beach Inn and Higgins Beach period for your next vacation....Shirley M

We spent four nights at the Higgins Beach Inn, and we loved it. It was easy to slow down and relax at the Inn. We had a room on the third floor, looking out the front of the Inn. Each morning we got coffee and pastries and sat in our window and leisurely read the paper. We were glad we had chosen a room with a bathroom due to the convenience. The Inn is one block from the beach, and a very good location.

The staff is excellent. Very helpful, and so nice! Always asking how we were doing and where we were from. Everyone staying at the Inn is so friendly. We met several couples from other parts of the country.

We ate at the restaurant and our food was excellent.

We loved the Higgins Beach Inn and will return next year.

Room Tip: A room on the front with a bathroom.

This is a favorite summer dining spot for my husband and I. Their restaurant is named "Garofolo's Italian Restaurant" but it does not have its own identity here. I am a long-term Maine resident, and I have to say their baked-stuffed lobster is the best I've EVER had (I think it is not currently on their menu, but call ahead and inquire). My husband had the "Short Ribs" which were deliciously served with a lazy-man lobster claws atop. I'm uploading photos of both of our dishes. My only suggestion to the Innkeepers ... it's wonderful that you try to accommodate gluten-free diets, but don't overlook the bread course! So many restaurants do. When someone asks about gluten-free options, be sure to add something to the bread offerings that they can eat, even if it's packaged rice crackers. It was difficult to enjoy the luscious bread offerings when hubby had nothing to eat.

The Higgins Beach Inn is a truly unique place to stay. The inn is very old and rooms are decorated with very old furniture. When we stayed there, with friends from Conneticut, the Inn wasn't open for business. Bob and Diane graciously allowed us to stay, and made the three days a highlight of our second trip to the US. Staff are great.Higgins Beach is a wonderful part of the world, very quiet , but a hidden wonder. A minutes walk to the beach.

Great food--Personal Service--Go with whatever the Chef recommends.
Coastal style Inn with a nice lounge and a great restaurant. Special requests--no problem.

Make a weekend of it with that special other and enjoy a slice of heaven.

Can't wait to go back.

We come here every year. We have family in nearby South Portland, but this is by far our favorite place to stay. The rooms are all wonderful, even the ones with shared bathrooms. And the restaurant is fantastic, too! Don't forget to borrow the boogie-boards when you head for the beach (which is just down the street).

Room Tip: The shared bath ones are really ok.
