“Beautiful Inn Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2014

The Black Point Inn is a beautiful inn situated on a hill overlooking the water and even the local Golf course. We stayed in room 313 which had a very comfortable King bed and an expansive bay window overlooking the water and golf course with a fabulous view. Everything about the hotel was lovely, except the bath tub in our room. It was dated and looked as though at some point non-skid strips were put in place. These strips looked black and moldy. Even though they may have been cleaned, they did not look like it. For the price we paid, I would expect that something like this would have been updated. Perhaps a new glaze, if not a new tub. Other than that, the weekend was great. The restaurant was good but not really five star- just as others have noted. Although, the local oysters were the best I've had in a long time. The staff was courteous and professional but did not seem to go out of their way. The staff just did whatever was asked of them. Overall the Inn is a very nice place to stay. We would have given the Inn an excellent rating except for the bath tub issue. We would stay here again.

This is a beautifully located inn. We had a king/queen suite and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. All of the staff members from the door guy to the breakfast waitress to front desk helpers and even the housekeepers seemed to genuinely care about our comfort and happiness. They all seem quite cheerful and relaxed themselves. The inn is set just up from the harbor and looks quite at home amongst the utterly gorgeous homes of Prouts Neck. We loved being to walk downstairs in the morning to an excellent breakfast before heading out to the phenomenal cliff walk along the ocean. We also enjoyed the 1.5 mile beach walk in front of the Inn. There are also bikes for quests to use and another beach to explore on the other side of the inn. We never got back in the car from the moment we arrived! This is a unique, less crowded part of southern Maine and it is so glorious. The inn is beautifully decorated. Lovely flower arrangements (even in our room), crackling (real) fire in the main room, attractive furnishings. I really can't do justice to this gem of a place. Highly recommend.

First thing to say is the staff was attentive and friendly. Although the dining room was very slow at getting food out of the kitchen even when there were very few diners in the restaurant. The food was good but nothing really exciting. The pottery mugs in the restaurant are hand made and add a lovely touch to the pacesetting. The bar was accommodating and friendly too. The guest rooms vary greatly and there are quite a few that are in dire need of updating. One of the rooms for our group had an air conditioner that banged loudly all night long, another room had wallpaper and furnishings from the early 80's (felt like staying in my grandmother's guest room)! The beds are very comfortable and the view from the windows is spectacular but it really is time to bring the Inn into the current time period. The lobby offers a fireplace with a roaring fire that is attended to from start to finish of the day but again the furniture is tired and very outdated. For an Inn that is clearly targeting an upscale consumer it is surprising that they are not taking more care in reflecting fine furnishings and fabrics in their decor. The Cliff walk is a must do activity! Simply wonderful! All in all this Inn is a treasure that needs some TLC. I expect a higher degree of attention to details for the steep price charged.

Room Tip: ask for a room with an ocean view

Thank you for taking the time to share thoughts about your experience at our property. I will pass along your kind words about our team's service and their relentless commitment to guest satisfaction. We are proud of our property and our efforts to create the best possible experience for our guests while they share time with us here on Prouts Neck.

Your comments on the furnishings and decor at the Inn are well taken. Your group did have a variety of rooms featuring differing decors: Every room at our Inn is unique. 75% of your rooms were on our 2nd floor where just last winter we completed a large head to toe renovation. We worked tirelessly to update and freshen these spaces while holding true to the charm of a 140 year old historic New England inn. We are excited to be able to address the remaining guest rooms over time in the same fashion as we continue our roles as stewards of this marvelous property.

Each guest who visits our Inn and sits in front of the fire in our lobby has a unique perspective on both time and the space. To some a chair is tired....to others it is "Kennedy-esque". Serving these two perspectives in one place at the same time; watching them enjoying themselves brings us true satisfaction as Innkeepers. We appreciate all of our guests and strive to give them the very best at a place where our historic past meets our future. We look forward to seeing you and your group again soon at BPI. Thank you.

The Black Point Inn is a wonderful place to stay. The building and grounds overlook the water on Prout's Neck in Scarborough ME. The bedrooms were large and comfortable. The common areas of the Inn were cozy and comfortable and reminded us of the wonderful Inns from the turn of the century. Everything at the Inn was in top notch condition. The grounds and furnishings and Inn itself were beautiful. Dinners and breakfasts were wonderful. The waiters, waitresses, people at the reservation desk, and all the staff were so very friendly and helpful. They all helped to make our vacation as enjoyable as it was.

The Black Point Inn is one of the last traditional inns remaining on the coast of Maine. Although somewhat overpriced, this is a wonderful old hotel with breathtaking views of the ocean and access to the Cliff Walk. We had stayed here in years past before the rooms were “updated” and liked the old decor much more than the new, but at least it hasn’t been redecorated entirely in the ultra-modern horror style so prevalent in hotels today. While the food isn’t what I would call sensational, there is something of a dress code in the Point Restaurant, so you don't have to worry about being seated next to loud, sweaty, obnoxious people in ragged jeans and flip-flops. But best of all, this hotel does not allow dogs – so many formerly great hotels have been ruined in recent years by allowing dogs on the premises. There was a very enjoyable wine-tasting event one evening, but we could have done without the previous night’s loud “jazz” music. A piano player or harpist would have been much more appropriate in such a setting.

Room Tip: If you plan to walk very far along the Cliff Walk, wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes and if you...

I recently stayed at The Black Point Inn for my cousins wedding. It was a beautiful place with an amazing old wooden lobby. I had a wonderful time on the property, and loved how each room of the place was a little different. However, the front desk staff seemed a little burnt out. I had a interaction with one girl who acted a bit rude and self entitled.

Overall, the place was great, and the food was fantastic. Make sure to ask for an ocean view room!

Cute inn located on the water, across the water, and surrounded by water just
outside old money Prout's Neck, ME. They have a wonderful golf course with
many holes on the water and several tennis courts (sorry -- white attire only).
Prices per night run anywhere from $ 500 on up to 4 digits.
