“Nothing but great things to say.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

My adventure began with a wonderful customer service rep and ended with a kind, thoughtful door man. I booked to be steps from the ocean, to take photographs, and to treat my niece. Every single employee she and I met at the Black Point Inn from door to restaurant were not simply responsive, but delightful. We stayed during Memorial Day weekend and were there along with a pretty large, loud wedding party but because of BPI's exceptional treatment, weren't especially bothered by this. Our room was bright, our bedding delicious, the place was spotless. My only complaint was that the ocean side of the resort was inaccessible on the last day because of missing and blocked staircases - but that couldn't be helped because of the weather!

My sister thought she made a 12:30 pm reservation for Mother'Day. Mother is 92. OOPS. We had to wait 30 minutes before I met up with some manager type. We were seated in the bar/other restaurant than the Mother's Day
buffet main room. This took a total of 45 minutes. When we went for food there were 3 to 4 empty tables. The buffet was fine, ordering the main meal was somewhat disappointing. My tenderloin was dry and cool. I do way better at home. This was returned but replacement took a manager not the server. The bill was wrong, items included in the fixed price were on the bill, but removed after it was pointed out. It was a difficult determine the tip when we had to do a lot of the work and serve ourselves. Food was average, service was shabby, fixed price per person $65. No real value.

My husband and I recently tried this Inn after flying into Portland. We were on our way to Kennbunkport, but thought we'd try this for our first night. It is very convenient to the airport and perfect if you have a late afternoon flight.

We had the most incredible dinner in their fine dining restaurant. The lobster strudel was a first for us and very delicious! Breakfast the next morning was also a treat. Unlike many M.A.P. plans your choices here were virtually unlimited with absolutely no restrictions! When you consider the food, their prices are really reasonable.

Beautiful place, friendly staff. next time we will stay for two nights!

We loved the room, the situation of the inn, the walks from the site and the service except for the main restaurant. We ate in the so-called fine dining restaurant on our first night but the ambience was cold and impersonal. The server was delightful (Polly) but she was let down by her colleagues in the kitchen. My husband has an allergy to onions and there was o attempt whatsoever to tailor any dish to his taste. He was left with bland cold shrimp an dlettuce and a steak without any sides apart from limp lettuce. Fine dining? I don't think so! The second night we had an excellent fish and chips in the Chart Room which had more atmosphere than the main restaurant. My recommendation would be to stop being pretentious ov the fine dining and serve the great Char Roomfood throughout the Inn.

Room Tip: On the front overlooking the bay

We stayed here as part of a tour of New England and absolutely loved everything about it - the fabulous location, the decor, the ambience and the friendly and helpful staff. We couldn't find fault with it.

The Inn is in a gem of a location and features one of the nicest seaside hikes anywhere. However, on my second visit in three years there were glaring disappointments. For starters, service charges and Maine tax will up your already-steep tariff nearly 25%. Be prepared. We had dim lightbulbs, a broken lamp, funky heating, including a dead unit in one room for all three chilly nights, and low shower pressure. My octogenarian parents, who love the Inn and brought us as a special treat, were not seated in the formal dining room once in three nights. It wasn't until we arrived that we were notified of special events scheduled for the Point Restaurant. We were seated several times in the inhospitable room between the formal and casual restaurants, and one morning froze without a fire in the fireplace. The flies were a constant nuisance although the waitstaff, to a person, was friendly. We were also displaced from the public areas on more than one occasion for a large bridal party who wanted the couches and fire. The chowder was tepid and the lobster mac and cheese had three bites of lobster. You'll pay extra for cappuccino and alcohol. Despite these grievances, the Black Point Inn is the only show in town and has the walk of a lifetime.

Room Tip: A water view is the ticket. And not the pool!

There is no finer place to sip an adult beverage than on the outside deck at The Black Point Inn. Look out over the ocean and see the view that inspired Winslow Homer to paint his beautiful seascapes. Casual is fine, but class it up a bit beyond cutoffs and jeans to do justice to the setting.
