The ledges is a great place for cleanliness, view and serenity. It is not fancy but it is frendly and safe. The price is reasonable and the rooms are more than adequate.

We booked Ledges a week ahead of our trip. The person on the phone was friendly & helpful. Other accomodations *on line* at the same price level were generally booked up or were considerably pricier. However, when we got there, we saw many attractive places with vacancies that weren't listed on line (& I looked at many web sites), however we didn't price compare. The most distinctive aspect of Ledges is definitely its location, overlooking the Rockport inlet. We stayed in a "deluxe" king & the view was really beautiful. Also, being in Rockport, in between Rockland & Camden, is a good place to be. The room is plain & a bit dated (& would be improved without plastic flowers & fruit), but clean & comfortably enough. Continental breakfast is forgetable. Not deluxe, but decent for the price & the view.
We had a wonderful stay at Ledges. The room had a great view of the bay and the ocean. The room had everything you could want for a rainy day as well - DVDs, puzzles, binocculars, a refrigerator. The staff was friendly and helpful.
I spent the 4th of July, 2009, at the Ledges By The Bay. It was great. Rooms were spacious, and clean. Helen sure does a good job keeping the rooms in great shape. The view from Room 11 was great of the coast of Maine. i would stay again without hesitation. GV
We were very pleased with our stay--the room was VERY comfortable, amenities were fabulous--we had an ocean view deluxe room with a king bed. Very comfortable bed, nice soft quilts instead of the usual scratchy polyester bedspread, large bathroom, private balcony with gorgeous ocean view, two sink/vanities. The room was spotless, and the little extras were nice--there was a flat screen TV and iMac in the room, as well as a dvd player and dvds, board games, and binoculars. There was a dog in the room next door, but we only heard it when both balcony doors were open, which was nice. No noise from either neighboring room. The outdoor heated pool was perfect for us and our little one, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was that the website led us to believe that there was shore access--we expected a rocky beach, given that it is Maine, but found instead that there is virtually no shore access, even to rocks. There is a path to the water, but it is hard footing and not really worth it when you get there. The hotel has beautiful sloping lawns down to a dropoff to the water, but the lawns were both swampy and covered with a fairly thick coating of seagull droppings. Looks great from a distance, but I don't recommend walking or playing there. However, there are small beaches in Lincolnville, a short drive north on Route 1. If you're looking for a real beach, go to York instead. If you want a comfortable stay in a less touristy part of the Maine, I would definitely recommend the Ledges. We will be going back.
