We were amazed at the lack of customer service at the Samoset Resort and in Maine, in general.
The resort is definitely not as luxurious as the website seems. Rooms are almost Holiday Inn-ish. Not worth the money.
Worst aspects:
--Food is ok, at best, but very overpriced for what you get. That includes Marcel's and Breakwater Cafe. At Marcel's we had wine that had turned sour and flies buzzing around our table. The waitstaff at Breakwater Cafe was young, untrained and completely inept.
--Generic rooms
--The bar closes at 10:30-11:00 so forget about a nightcap after you come back from dinner.

Best aspects:
--My husband loved the golf course right on the ocean.
--free wireless internet in the rooms.
--The health club people were very nice. I loved the group yoga class and had a wonderful massage.

I definitely would not return here or recommend it to friends.

Worst 4 diamond I have ever experienced. Room was nasty, very dirty. Dishonest regarding per night price. We agreed on a price over the phone and I was charged $70 higher upon arrival. the samoset is at the most a 2 star. Again its quite dishonest to charge 4 diamond prices and in return the guest gets much lower class amenities. We had about 1/2 dozen flies flying over us at marcels restaurant, but our request for a different table was denied. Beware of pictures on their web-site, extremely different from the truth. Last but not least our welcome scene after driving 9 hours was the very large grave site (cementary) at entrance to hotel which they fail to mention on their lovely website.

We love Samoset. We trade into it from RCI and it's a great deal for us. We were there a week and stayed in room 615. Wonderful experience. This is elegant living, in our opinion. The setting is stunning.

The staff was excellent and very helpful. We ate at the Cafe several times and, except for a young waiter who should consider entering a different profession, it was fine. I have low expectations for meals in resorts generally so I'm usually pretty satisfied with basic food. The fried clams however, were done perfectly so that was a pleasant surprise. I never go to expensive resturants in resort towns since it so often results in disappointment so we did not try Marcel's.

We had a one bedroom suite and it was clean and very quiet. We love Samoset and recommend it highly.

Beautiful resort, Beautiful view.

Meal plan... was not worth it. We had to pay for the kids... it would have been cheaper to eat out instead. On our last night... after a wonderful Lobster boat excursion...we sit down to dinner at the Breakwater Cafe and we are told that there is no lobster... NO Lobster... ARe we in Maine???? Needless to say we were very disappointed.

Had a problem "processing" Amex card. The card was used minutes before at Rite Aid and on the way home at the gas station... I feel that they just don't like to accept Amex and make the guest feel as though we have been declined.

The outdoor pool was so cloudy that you couldn't see the bottom. Not acceptable.

We stayed at this resort last August and were extremely dismayed by the service and overall experience at this resort. The wait staff at the restaurant (during breakfast) were completely inept and obviously poorly trained. The food was also average at best. The outdoor pool was not heated and cold, which to me is inexcusable for a resort in Maine! The most outrageous matter was the hotel's response to a building-wide fire alarm that went off and blared at full blast in hallways and in the indivudual rooms for almost a half hour starting at 2 o'clock in the morning (of course waking and keeping up our young children and presumably everyone else in the hotel). First, after at least 5 minutes of unsuccessful attempts to contact the front desk, it took almost 15 minutes for someone from hotel staff to even arrive at our floor to explain what was going on (it turned out it was a false alarm). Very frightening indeed not to see or hear from anyone working at the hotel. Even worse, when we learned in the morning that the alarm was caused by a malfunction in the hotel alarm system, we were met with silence; there was no statement or apology from any hotel staff member. They treated us as if absolutely nothing had happened. Indeed, when we checked out, nothing was mentioned until I said something about this awful event and asked for a courtesy (they gave us a $60 credit). This is not the kind of experience one would expect from an expensive resort like the Samoset. Although the location is beautiful, and we loved the Camden-Rockport area, this hotel is unacceptable.
