“Surprisingly Good Winter Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

My wife, son and I went to the Samoset Resort for a little Christmas Eve getaway to the Camden, Maine area. We had low expectations and we were just looking to relax in the pool, eat well and do some post Xmas shopping. Nearly everything was closed in the area on Xmas day so the hotel was our only option for eating. We were so pleasantly surprised at this older, but well cared for resort. The front lobby was welcoming with festive decorations and the architecture and design were contemporary and woodsie. The restaurant is excellent - contemporary boutique styling, a separate main dining area with a full menu and a more casual bar and lounge area with the option of casual food or the full menu. Very tasty food. Typically "resort" restaurants conjure up clubbiness but this restaurant felt contemporary, fun and comfortable. The pool and health club were very nice - clean, modern and spacious. Our room was very nicely appointed with nice beds and pillows. The 2 mile walk out to the lighthouse was a great diversion before breakfast. Considering how inexpensive our room was in Winter, we had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay here - it was easy to entertain ourselves. It was also the perfect place to operate out of for our excursions to Camden and Lincoln. Way better than a motor-in, chain hotel or in-town hotel with few amenities. The Samoset Resort will please.

Jgitelman,

Thank you for all your kind words of your winter visit to The Samoset.

We are pleased we exceeded your expectations, and you were able to enjoy a nice relaxing stay.

The resort has received favorable feedback of our new dining options La Bella Vita and Enoteca, and it’s wonderful to read you were able to enjoy both over the holiday.

Thank you for noticing our striking lobby, the one of a kind architecture you mentioned is restored beams from a closed granary in Portland.

We look forward to hosting you for another winter getaway.

With hospitality,

Cornelius Russell

I performed at this resort for a wedding ceremony & reception. The grounds were very nice, the view of the ocean was remarkable, the service was great, the indoor function area was very clean & roomy, and the food was excellent! I highly recommend this resort to anyone honeymooning, getting married, and or having a reception.

Even in winter this resort is first class, from the top of the line health club, pool steam and hot tub.
to the warm inviting lounge and brick oven pizza. The sunday brunch was incredible. The staff friendly. Our 1 bedroom condo was updated ,clean, and well equipped.(cooktop only , no oven if you like to bake)

Room Tip: Because of the old design construction , floors 1 and 2 may be noisy because of foot traffic above...

We just had the pleasure of attending a conference at the Samoset — a hotel we had been wanting to visit for many years — and it was wonderful. We expected the lovely, well appointed room with a great view. We expected good food and well appointed facilities, but the best part turned out to be the staff. From the warm greeting at check-in to waitress in the Enoteca they were all tip-top. What meant the most me was the fact they realized my husband was in some discomfort from a recent back problem and they were johnny-on-the-spot to help with the luggage and other items. We will come back for a non-business visit soon I am sure

Had the opportunity to stay here for a convention. Everyone was helpful from the first phone call to checkout. The restaurant was gorgeous and the ice bar was beautiful. (It was pouring rain so I didn't get the chance to sit at the bar.)

Had a wonderful room overlooking the lighthouse. Definitely get one of the rooms in what they call the deluxe wing.

I didn't get to try all of the hotel amenities because of all day meetings, but everything looked top notch.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe wing room for the best views!

Our weekend stay at The Samoset was a wonderful winter getaway for the whole family! The Resort is gorgeous and the staff friendly and helpful. The Bella Vita restaurant was outstanding.
The winter ice bar was a crowd pleaser! It was fun to be able to enjoy the lively outdoor atmosphere and then take a dip in the heated pool or jacuzzi. The kids especially enjoyed the ice rink!
I would highly recommend this as a perfect winter get away!
