“Not for evryone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

As we sat on our side by side bunk beds we reflected that many of our friends would not like this trip. For us we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a little rough with two showers on deck and three heads scattered about the boat but the staff /crew were great the food plentiful and good.
The weather was cold which restricted some of the activities. For example lunch was normally to be served on deck but the cold weather prevented that happening which wasn't a big deal but would have been nicer to have on deck.
The captain entertained with stories about the vessel and his pride in his boat was obvious. Many of the passengers on our 'cruise' had been crew members when they were in college or had sailed many times when on vacation in Rockland. Their stories and recollections of events made the trip interesting and entertaining.
A little rough for some but an experience that for us was one we glad to have participated in.

“Experience of a lifetime, with great food and great people as a bonus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

I'm amazed I'm the first person to write a review for the Victory Chimes, so it's good that I can give a good one.
Just to get a couple of caveats out of the way. If you're the sort of person to whom 5-star luxury is important, this isn't for you. It's an old schooner, the cabins are the size that they are (the pictures on the website show you exactly what they look like), and everything is a little rough and ready (but frankly, that's half the fun.) And getting about the ship involves using what the crew themselves emphasise is as much a ladder as a staircase i.e. you need to walk up and down backwards. But having said that, there were a couple of people on our cruise with mild mobility problems and they managed happily.
Now the positives - the Maine coast is stunningly beautiful, and we all happily watched it slide by for days. The crew are hard-working, helpful and very friendly. The captain is knowledgeable and entertaining, and the food is absolutely wonderful. It's a unique experience that gives you the chance to unplug from the rest of the world, while making friends with some great people and seeing America at its most beautiful.
Bring clothing that will work for both windy days, and balmy sunny days. And make sure you help with hoisting the sails - good fun and it burns off some of those calories from the great food!
