“Convenient hotel and great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

I stayed here twice (Oct. & Dec. 2013). I was having surgery at the nearby Maine Eye Center. The "medical" rate was very reasonable indeed. The hotel was clean and quiet. The restaurant was good -- and my husband and I appreciated not having to go out to eat. (Navigating around while relying on one "usable" eye would not have been easy.) The staff were gracious and helpful. Much appreciated!

Had daughter, son in law (their dog) and me; Clarion accommodated all of us, and I slept like a log. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I've had in a while with the eggs or "omelets to order" made a great finishing touch. I will so stay here again, this place knows how to make a traveler feel welcome, and even though we had a huge ice storm, no power outage, no TV issues, no problems at all! Thanks!!

Room Tip: I stayed on the 2nd floor room 219, quiet, nice and warm, great sleep. Pets are on the first floor.

Staying here was a pleasant experience. The front desk staff was extremely freindly and helpful. We arrived late and left early so we didn't have a chance to try the breakfast. Room was clean. Wireless internet worked well. This location was convenient, a very short walk to the Amtrak station.

This is the best deal I ever scored via Priceline. The hotel staff is amazing. Very friendly, helpfull and time for just talking about the holidays. The location of the hotel is just perfect. 8 minutes by car to downtown Porland for a price none of the downtown hotels can offer you. Our bed was very comfortable and rooms are spacious and clean. Decor is a bit dated but that is about it. For the price we payed this was a smashing deal. We did not have breakfast in the hotel but they seem to have an extensive selection for just $8.95. We did use the gym and the first time we went the treadmills were not working. The day after the problem was fixed. This hotel has such a great staff. Thanks guys for a wonderful stay.

This is a standard mid-range hotel. It could use better housekeeping (the elevator was consistently dirty). The bathroom was not sanitized as noted by the stains on the toilet seat. I heard every voice, luggage being rolled, and door being opened through out the night. This hotel is not close to anything you'll want to do in Portland (but is right off the highway if you're just driving thru) and is cheap if booked thru a 3rd party (priceline or hotwire). I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else if you want a good night's sleep

I came here for an intimate night with my wife. We've come a few times because we can bring our dogs and it's pretty cheap. This place is not quiet though, unfortunately. The latest time we stayed there was loud noisy people until about 4am running around on our floor.

As tourists in Portland with a car, we chose the Clarion to save money. You should be aware it's way too far to walk if you want to eat and shop downtown, unless you like long walks through sketchy areas. Was really expecting worse, based on some past reviews, so we were relieved to find a pretty nice hotel. That said, some of the other guests were a little rough around the edges, but most were regular folks like us.

We stayed in late October for $62/night (AAA rate.) Check-in went smoothly- Our friends had a 2 queen room on 4th floor facing east which had a nice view of the city. Our king room #309 was updated, well-appointed, included executive desk & chair, upholstered chair & ottoman, comfortable king bed, large flat screen TV, micro & frig. Very clean. Bathroom on the small side. Tile grout in tub needs some TLC.

The indoor pool and Jacuzzi looked a little worn out. Nice bar and breakfast area. No complimentary breakfast- the buffet costs $8.95 and looked pretty good- didn’t try it. Airport just across the river, so we expected to hear planes all day and night. Only noticed a few- not bothersome at all.
