“We are ready to go back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We have been to this property 3 times. While we park in their garage, when we want to go to the wharf to shop or have dinner, they offer a great service. They drove us down there and gave us a number to call and they picked us up when we were ready. While it is close enough to walk we have some health issues that precluded us from doing that. The rooms have always been pleasant and the view from the upper floors facing the water is great. The staff was so pleasant, helpful and friendly, everything was clean, the breakfasts were good. It is no wonder we are ready to go back. The rooms were a little pricey but when you have fallen in love with Maine and Portland you just decide to live with it. When you want to explore, it is easy to head any direction as it is well located. The spa? We were having so much fun enjoying full belly clams and other seafood, we did not even think of the spa. We can do that back home in Texas.

Room Tip: We have stayed here on two separate occasions when we visited Maine. This place was great for us...

The best feature of this hotel is its location; walkable to many areas of Portland, especially the Arts, Old Port and Civic Center districts. That being said there is plenty to like here: indoor pool long enough to swim laps, tons of function rooms of all different sizes, friendly staff (more below on specific team members), free weekday newspaper, 24-7 coffee and other drinks in the lobby and each room had a free fridge. Perhaps this is/was because I am an IHG member, but upon check-in I was given a giant gift bag, which included water, coupons for free drinks in the hotel bar and even a lottery ticket.

We were here for a Bachelor Party (one of it seemed 5-6 Bachelor/Bachelorette parties that weekend in the hotel) and our standard room could accommodate 2 Queen beds and a cot which helped save lots of money on rooms! We were expecting to be charged for the cots and our many cars parked in the Hotel garage but that never happened, which was another cost saver!

The hotel appears to have contracts with various airlines serving the nearby Portland Intl. Jetport , so they have a few courtesy shuttles which ferry guests around the area, which is a logistical homerun (no waiting for hard to find taxis) for everyone, especially large groups. Note, the stated range of the shuttle is only a few miles, but with a few hours notice and generous tipping we were able to be taken anywhere we requested. Drivers John and Justin even gave us a guided tour as they dealt with our drunken nonsense at night. Lastly, 2 of our shuttle uses didn’t even start or end at the Hotel, which was above and beyond great customer service to accommodate those requests on a sold-out weekend night.

Negatives were the outdated gym, Hawaiian Punch (or worse) stained carpet in our room, and our toilet had recurring issues. Also, if you are above average height for a man, you will be touching the ceiling in the shower.

With no “chain” 4-star (or above) hotels in this market, the Holiday Inn is a solid selection if you need lodging for business, pleasure, and/or airport access in the Portland area.

This hotel was perfect for what we needed ... clean, AC worked, nice walk to Old Port, the shops, pubs and restaurants. The staff was very helpful and provided us guidance on where to and not to walk. There was a free shuttle that didn't take you just to and from the airport, but anywhere downtown. The restaurant in the hotel was good (maybe a little pricey but comparable to other locations) and had the best lobster roll of all the places we ate.

The only downfall ... the vending machines alternated between Coke and Pepsi and they had coffee and juice in the lobby ... but no vending machines for the late night after the bar munchies. :)

I would stay here again.

My friends and I stayed here for 2 Nights. The location is perfect for a walk towards town for the cute shops and restaurants. Parking is available at the hotel (usually it's free for guests staying at the hotel, but since it's summer, they charge $10 a day for parking). The rooms and commons areas were clean, check-in was a breeze (we were also able to check in 3 hours before the normal check-in time). Would definitely consider staying here again if I return to Portland.

The only complaint I have is the quality of the beds... WAY to mushy and the pillows were a little lumpy.

This hotel is a little pricey, but it was very clean and comfortable. Parking was reasonable and easy to access, and all of the staff was super helpful and friendly. The view from our room was nice as well. I liked that there was a microwave in our room, as I've never seen that before. And there was a safe and a mini fridge that wasn't one of those already stuffed with overly priced minibar items. It was just there as a nice addition to our room to keep our drinks cold! The only thing that was a little weird was that the keurig coffee machine was set up in the bathroom.

We only stayed one night at this hotel in Portland, but we were very comfortable and pleased with our stay. Our room overlooked the bay and it was beautiful. The hotel was close walking distance to all of the waterfront shops and restaurants. Need to note, that they do not have breakfast included but they do have a restaurant on site and parking on site (at a small cost). Our room cost was average (not low but not too high). I would have liked it to be a little less. We didn't try the restaurant but we did have one "free" drink at the bar. I believe that was due to being a "priority club member" or something like that. We would stay here again.
