“A treat for the eyes and taste buds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012 via mobile

The Inn has very subtle external signage, but once you find it you wont forget it. The decor is a fantastic mix of classical and contemporary art. The beautifully carved bed in our room was incredibly tall, but luckily there was step stool to help at bed time. Breakfasts were great, just as artfully designed as the Inn itself. The location is very nice, with good places to eat within walking distance.

We stayed on a recent anniversary trip and have to say they know how to put the breakfast in B&B. We could repeat all the other accolades, but just have to say Dana is a fantastic chef. We looked forward to the food based on other reviews and were not dissapointed. The staff was very helpful and we absolutely loved the unique decor. We look forward to visitng again soon.

You will not believe the superb breakfasts served up by Dana, not to mention the wonderful presentation. She also has a very nice cookbook available for purchase.
The decor of the Inn is amazing - a lively and eclectic mix that somehow works. It's like being at an art gallery - so many varied artworks and decorative objects to gaze at. Downstairs is a very comfortable sitting area with coffee (delicious), teas and decadent cookies at the ready for munching. The neighborhood is very nice and we received recommendations to several excellent restaurants within walking distance. Dana and Greg are great hosts - available when you need them, personable, welcoming and very helpful. We did not have any problem with parking, but you do need to keep in mind that most have to park on the street and move their cars during the day.
The only reason I'm giving a 4 rather than 5 rating is that our bathroom was so-so. It was clean but there was nowhere to put things (additional shelves would help - there was a closet with no doorknob or hooks so not very useful), one of those quaint sinks where the hot and cold water faucets are separate (not that big a deal), cracked tile, loose doorknob on the door to bedroom, and just generally not up to par with the decor and quality of the rest of the place. I meant to mention a suggestion to the innkeepers, but frankly, the rest of the experience was so good that I kept forgetting to bring it up!

Room Tip: We did not see many of the other rooms, so I really can't advise on which is better.

Charming place! First time visit Portland, ME and I enjoyed staying at the Pomegranate Inn. The Inn has a whimsical aura and set the mood for the entire trip.

Dana and Greg were awesome hosts. We had the Grapefruit Brulee with Vanilla Bean Cream and the Cheese Blintz Souffle with Berry Coulis with candied bacon. Words cannot describe the food. Amazing.

My husband and I returned this past weekend for a second stay at the Pomegranate Inn. Our daughter and son-in-law joined us at this very special place and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We find the creative and artistic furnishings a delight and the food, including the afternoon tea and goodies, absolutely fabulous. We just love the Pomegranate Inn and look forward to a third visit.

Alex, Dana, and Greg make a great team in terms of taking care of all your needs. Although check-in begins at 4 pm, I called at 2 pm saying that we had just arrived by train, and asked if our room was available for early check-in. Alex said "come on over!", which made things so much more pleasant for two people lugging two suitcases around. We took a quick cab to the Inn, and Alex greeted us with a brief tour, and a map to point out directions to our restaurant for the evening. We stayed in the first floor room in the carriage house, which was clean, fun, and had a gas fireplace that created an amazing amount of warmth. Very cozy. The flat screen TV was small, but adequate for a few hours of viewing. The bed was very comfortable, and they accommodated my partner's need for Non-feathered bedding without skipping a beat. Dana, the innkeeper, shines in the morning. She prepares a gourmet breakfast that is artful, delicious, and quite generous without being overwhelming. I took a photo of each meal every day...it was that beautiful. I was happy to purchase one of her cookbooks for a friend's birthday. Alex set out tea/coffee and homemade cookies each afternoon at 4 pm, which we made a point of enjoying. The inn is just a 15 minute walk to the Portland Art Museum and many terrific restaurants. Dana had given me a few good restaurant choices for vegetarians, which were spot-on. The main inn is decorated with an eclectic flair that made for a museum like experience, but with plenty of comfy nooks to relax in. My partner and I agree that this inn is a winner that we would gladly return to in the future.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main house are all on the second and third floors. If you have issues with stairs...

Pomegranate is every bit as good as the photos, even better. Conveniently located, beautifully decorated with a charming mix of antiques and artwork, great innkeepers and staff and great food - what more could you want.
