Portland has a lot of great restaurants, and I had heard that the Front Room was among them. It is an effort at a traditional steak house, but a very weak effort. I ordered a steak, figuring that I was playing to their strength, but it was totally mediocre. Not a particularly delicious piece of beef and not well prepared. The advice on wine we got from the waiter was terrible (as was the wine), the sides were nothing special (those fries are supposed to be legendary? Totally unremarkable) and it was over priced. I'm amazed that this place stays in business in Portland. Based on the good restaurants in town, it seems tome that Portlandians have sophisticated palates and know from good food. If I'm right about that, this place won't last.
