“Small, Cozy and Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We were here last night, had just a wonderful meal and experience. I had, as I always do, the Mezze Plate -- always similar in theme, cheese, meats, nuts, spreads, but always different in execution! You know you're going to like it, but it's always a surprise! Wine was great, the tapas small plates are interesting and priced so you can enjoy multiples. It was a winter evening, with a window table -- could not have been more perfect!

“Sheer Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

My husband and I have dined at The Blue Spoon twice now and will surely go back again and again. The Slue Spoon is a quaint venue on Munjoy Hill...the menu is diverse and wonderful...we have ordered the meze plate (both times) which is a lovely array of cheeses, fruits, nuts, toasted pita, and olives. My husband had the bistro burger...which is free range beef served with a warm potato salad...I had the BLT...thick bacon with light rosemary mayo, mesclun greens, and fresh tomato on toasted sourdough bread. On another visit, I had the prosciutto on a baguette with fennel and mint slaw, shaved parmesan, and extra virgin olive oil. Check out their online menu selection...there is a wide variety. Great place for couples, friends, and out of town guests! The restrooms are tiny, but clean...In the nicer weather, you can dine and/or have a drink outside. Yes, the venue is small...but the acoustics are wonderful and the waitress is awesome! If you are in Portland, and you don't want a commercial and really touristy place for lunch or dinner...try the Blue Spoon, you won't be disapppointed.

“Shocked by good reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We've been to this place a number of times over the years when in town. It was never awesome but was usually good. It has gone way down hill. So many better restaurants in Portland that this one is off the list for us. Was so pleased that they now take reservations and that they now have a full bar - but for us, the good stopped there. Bread was stale - so many awesome bakeries in Portland that this was baffling. We ordered several small dishes - all of them were swimming in sauces and toppings the cooks seemed to be just slopping things together. And speaking of the cooks - there is an open kitchen and one of the cooks was constantly eating while cooking. Ew. Servers couldn't keep our water glasses filled - and that was our primary drink. All in all a waste of time. The owner needs to check back in . . .

“Great burger!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stopped in for lunch without a reservation on a Saturday afternoon and ended up sitting at the bar, which faces the open kitchen, so the view wasn't all that nice. The rest of the restaurant is nicely decorated, but small, so you might want to have reservations. The food was excellent - I recommend the bistro burger, which was terrific and the warm potato salad that came with it was delicious. My wife went for the beet salad and said it was also good. Location is a little out of the way, but worth it.

“The positive reviews are true”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We booked the Blue Spoon entirely on the basis of TA reviews and had a memorable evening with friends while we celebrated two birthdays. We've been to a great many Portland area restaurants but inexplicably missed this gem on Munjoy Hill until now. Our party of five had a great variety of food, from the meze plate to the trout, from the rigatoni to the marinated skirt steak. Everything was very good to excellent. We were a little disappointed at first that the Blue Spoon did not have any beers on tap, but they made up for that with a strong selection of distinctive beers in the can or bottle. The wine selection was also excellent. What really makes this place special, though, is the warm, cozy, inviting atmosphere. You soon feel like it's your "local," or it should be. Can't wait to return to this lovely restaurant.
