Ate dinner with a friend and her two children. Two out of three appetizers were very good, especially the Agedashi-tofu and Soft Shell Crab. The kids had Bento boxes, which at $6.50 was a bargain. The Teppan entree was nice, but the Donburi was dry and unappetizing. The highlight of the night came as the main course dishes were being cleared. The waitress piled one too many plates in a pile and as she moved them past me, they toppled over and landed on my lap and I ended up soaked with the leftover sauces! The owner ran over with at least 5 warmed dish clothes and apologized. I think the waitress apologized once, but I couldn't say for sure. Given the extent of the 'damage', I thought he would comp a reasonable portion of the check. As we waited for the check, a couple mentioned that the same thing happened to them and nothing was comped. They had to ask for it. I pulled the owner aside, showed him my wet pants and suggested he comp a portion of the check. Out of an $88 dollar check, he knocked off $22. Some might think that was fair, but with so many other great Asian-inspired restaurants in Portland, I won't rush back very soon.
