My boyfriend had heard from a friend that the Back Bay Grill was the best food in Portland. He really wanted to go, but we were on a bit of a tight budget. The next day, a Friday, I landed a job interview, and was offered the job on the spot. So, we went out to celebrate. At the door, the host offered to take my jacket, and asked me how my day was. I mentioned that I had just gotten a new job and we were celebrating. We were lead into a classy dining room, with a warm atmosphere. They told us we were sitting in one of their favorite spots in the restaurant; a cozy corner table with a comfortable bench. When our waiter came over, he immediately congratulated me on the new job. All in all, we had a four course meal, starting with the Foie Gras, which was my favorite dish of the night, and the scallops appetizer, moving on to two delicious salads, then to the lamb chops for him, and hand made papardelle with braised rabbit for me, and finishing up with creme brulee, which our waiter brought out on a plate with "Congratulations" written in chocolate. Between each of our four courses, the waitstaff never neglected to re-silver us, or bring more water. In total, our meal cost $150, well worth it, and money very well spent.
Everything from the service, to the food to the atmosphere was far beyond my expectations.
