“Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2011

This is a great place to stay if you're interested in a central location to walk to all of the great shopping and restaurants on/near the Portland waterfront. Only drawback for us was the valet parking requirement and subsequent charge (meaning that there was no free self-parking available at the hotel), but other than that I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed here two nights, found it to be a great deal. Rooms were spacious and clean, location couldn't be beat. They offer special rates all the time which can really make this a great deal... not sure I would be happy if I had paid $250, but at $90 this place was great!!! TIP- the fish and hips at the pub next door (RARA) are huge, and very tasty.

Rudest staff of any hotel ever!! We were denied parking and had to go to a parking garage and walk with our luggae while awaiting a hip replacement. We were given the finger with both hands by the punk valet the next night and we didn't even park there! General manager tried to deny entire incident at first. Then, just said sorry after about a month of endless e-mails. Do not stay there under any circumstances! Many other hotels around with great staff!

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown from Oct. 14 through Oct 18.
The front desk staff was super and got us checked to a beautiful water view room on the sixth floor. The room was large and well furnished. The valet staff was also very good. They were quick to give directions and recommendations.
If your travels ever bring you to the Portland area we highly recommend staying at this property.

Our room was on the 6th floor, just around the corner from the elevator. The room was very clean and quiet! Never heard any noise at all during the night. We had a 2 bedded room and it was very spacious and comfortable. We found on street parking so didn't have to pay for valet. The meters are free from about 6pm until 8-9 the next morning. Gives you enough time if you need to run out and either feed the meter 1 time or move your car.

Our experience with all the staff was just wonderful. We arrived with bikes on the back of our car and the valet was quick to tell us about a bike trail just down the street that runs around the bay. He also put the car were we would have easy access to the bikes.

The staff at the check-in desk were every bit as accommodating. They checked us in quickly, whipped out a map of the area and showed us where we were and where the shopping was located. They were also prepared to give us recommendations for dinner but we already had reservations. Upon returning from our bike ride there were fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on the desk.

The room itself was very nice, quite large with a beautiful view of the water. I had not expected to have a view as I booked a non view room. They must upgrade you when they have rooms available. The room had a microwave and small fridge which could come in handy.

All in all, this is a centrally located hotel, nicely maintained, friendly staff with a bar and meal service. I would definitely return.

This is a typical Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) housed in a mid-rise building across from the harbor in a great location. Like many HGIs, rooms are a bit bland, but clean and efficient. Many of the rooms have nice views toward the water. Service is professional, but casual. There is very little not to like about the place.

The location is urban, which is great except for having to pay for parking. Right next door is The Standard Baking Co., a first rate bakery that is fantastic, one of the tops in Portland. Down the street you'll find many shops and restaurants, and museums are within walking distance (10 - 12 blocks).
