“What a really enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2008

So we went up for a night (was supposed to be 2, but too much snow to leave when we expected to) and just had such a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly and efficient--front desk, housekeeping, the maintenance people we met in the elevator, and the breakfast restaurant staff. Everyone was there to make sure you were well taken care of. Our rooms were ready well before the expected check in time. It was a short walk to the Polar Express. Also less than a block from really good dinner spots--which the staff expertly advised us on. Yes the bed was soft, but the rooms were big, exceptionally clean and well appointed. It was great, and so much more than I expected from a Hilton at this price point.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel. Everyone on their staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and large. The new HGI bed is one of the best beds on the market. We woke up in the morning to a beautiful sunrise over Portland's Harbor.

There are two local restaurants that you need to try, both within a 2 block distance from the hotel. Flatbreads is located directly across from the hotel. The breads are prepared as you wait and then baked in a wood-heated over. All of the ingredients are organic. We had just a pizza but the taste was incredible.

The other place you have to try is called Duckfat. THE BEST french fries you will ever have and yes, they are cooked in duck fat. The paninis are good as well.

The other establishment you should try is the Standard Baking Company directly need to the hotel. Their morning rools are "to die for". The rugalach is also extremely good.

I wish we could have spent some more time exploring this harbor area as there seemed to be very interesting things to do. Instead, we decided to drive the 3 1/2 hours to Bar Harbor to see the coastline. It was November and only one restaurant and one store in Bar Harbor was open so it was a long ride for not a whole lot. I thought the Maine coast down by Kennebunkport is much nicer.

Enjoy your stay if you go.

Great place. We really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The room was on the top floor over looking the Portland Harbor....it was beautiful. I would highly recommend this hotel as a slurge or for "special occasions".

  • Liked — Great view from a very clean and comfortable room.

Nice hotel with comfortable well appointed rooms.

The bed was good and the a/c very quiet.

We enjoyed an excellent breakfast. A good place to stay on the Waterfront.

Portland was ok for a visit but wouldn't rush to return.

Stayed for 2 nights. It was a fine stay, no complaints. Try to get some type of discount, because $309 for waterfront view is a bit pricey. Hotel is nice, but not out of this world. One note... Our purpose of our trip was to go Whale Watching. Two phone calls were made to the hotel and each time they said it's easy to grab a boat anytime to do the whale watching tours. This may have been true during the height of the season, but was not the case when we were there Sept 25-27th. The front desk didn't have too much information for us (totally different story than when we called). VERY disappointing. We made the best of the great location, great restaurants, great shopping (just watch your ankles while walking - cobble stones/brick everywhere - very uneven!!)

Comfortable beds, updated clean and modern decor, quiet room (on the back of the hotel), great service (especially if you're there on business). The location is perfect - right across from the waterfront. We walked everywhere. And having the Standard Baking Company in the parking lot next door is an added plus - you don't have to walk far to get your coffee and croissant.
