“Great Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014

We read the reviews before booking this hotel and took advice of many recommendations and booked rooms facing the inner courtyard. Rooms were quiet, clean and so comfortable. Hotel was in the middle of everything - made it easy to walk everywhere. Staff was very friendly. Loved the morning coffee service on our floor! They picked us up at the Amtrak station and returned us to the airport. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Portland!

In the heart of Portland, literally step out the door and you are on Four street where all the pubs and bars are, walk a block to the Harbor.

Very nice outdoor area and bar. Food was excellent. Rooms were are excellent.

Not a cheap hotel, if you are looking for value try, LaQuinta for $100, its a $3 taxi ride.

We are indeed fortunate to have a beautiful, full service hotel in the heart of the Old Port. We are glad that you found us and that you shared your comments with Trip Advisor.
Eve's on the Garden, our on site gourmet restaurant is a local favorite !

We do hope you will choose to stay with us again soon !

The hotel is in a perfect location for strolling the downtown area. Rooms are smallish but were clean and the linens very nice. The hotel did send an email disclosing street noise, however it is not just street noise it is loud band noise with the constant beat of a base...pretty annoying . This is not under the control of the hotel and should be addressed by the city planners and regulated. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Hallway carpeting and walls were a little dingy and could use cleaning. Overall a nice experience if you don't mind the band or are not going to bed before midnight.

Room Tip: Not street side..courtyard but those are more expensive

Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback with the Trip Advisor community and telling us about your experience. Please know that we do offer garden side accommodations that offer a quieter night sleep. During the peak summer months, the Old Port area is indeed a busy place with live music and city happenings. It is much quieter in the fall and lends a perfect time to return.
The off season is also when we are afforded the opportunity to complete our " housekeeping"chores such as carpet cleaning and other regularly scheduled maintenance projects.

We hope you will try us again !

Warm Regards,

Brenda Goodwin

The room was beautiful and our window overlooked the inner courtyard. Bedding/linens were comfortable and the bathroom was great. I got really sick for 24 out of the 48 hours I was in the Portland and so I really got my money's worth with this hotel room. If I was going to be completely incapacitated and sick on vacation, this was the place to be with a plush bathrobe to wear and soft duvet to sleep under. I ended up having to order room service and it was pretty good and not a rip-off (a decent sandwich for $12 including gratuity, tax, etc.).

Other things to note:
-There is a coffee station with Starbucks coffee set out each morning in the hall near the elevator.
- I wish I'd been able to take out the complimentary bikes onto the promenade.
-The rest of my group loved the central location for the all of the bar and restaurant hopping they did.
-Valet parking was the only option which was a bit of a bummer, but the valet guys were top notch and really helpful and friendly. All the staff hotel-wide were professional.

I highly recommend this hotel if you have the budget for it!

We truly appreciate your 5 star review of our hotel. The fact that you were under the weather and still had such lovely things to say, means a lot to us !

We do hope that you will return in the future and have an opportunity to explore Portland with our complimentary bikes and enjoy a full meal at our gourmet restaurant, Eve's on the Garden. The patio is lovely during warm weather and our new Fire Pit, will extend our out door season, well into the fall.

Ideally situated in downtown Portland, we stayed 1 night here with our family of 4 during our New England summer vacation. Very clean and comfortable. Hotel staff was very friendly. Comfortable bicycles (with helmets and locks) are available at the hotel for free rental and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the shore trails with them! Being we were only there for 1 night it allowed us to really get around and feel as if we saw a lot. Also had a wonderful breakfast featurning lobster omlettes!

Stayed at the Portland Harbor for a conference. Truly a beautiful hotel. I arrived a couple hours early and was allowed to check in right away. I was surprised with a water view. The room was nicely decorated though oddly shaped - was at the end of a hallway so a long, narrow room. Mattress was a little firm for me but was OK. The location was great. Did not need a car, was able to walk everywhere. Got kind of loud one night, there must be a nightclub nearby, but it really didn't bother me that much. It is a charming, elegant hotel. My only (minor) complaint is that I did not have a refrigerator in my room. I was expecting to have one but was unable to find it. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby is comfortable to relax while waiting. Overall, I was very pleased.

Thank you for sharing your experience at our hotel. We are truly pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you found everything most pleasant and well appointed. Your feedback regarding the guest room refrigerators is appreciated and we will make sure to advise our guests that they are located in each armoire, behind a door. I apologize that you were not able to locate it during your stay.

We do hope to see you again!

Recently stayed at the Portland Harbor Hotel on a tour of New England with the family. Loved everything about the hotel from the room, the food, the location to the staff. Being that this was a family stay we rented a King executive Suite and a Executive Jacuzzi Suite (the two rooms connected) which was PERFECT for my family...provided a space which we all felt comfortable and not cramped. Beautifully decorated/modern rooms. Although the hotel may be amongst one of the "oldest" on the block it is defiantly worth the stay.

The real kicker is that my toddler son is on a gluten free diet so I called down to the restaurant to see if they offered a gluten free pasta on the menu pasta is his favorite). As it turns out, they did not offer this as a menu item however offered to purchase from the nearby grocer and prepare for my son. Can't get better than that! Look forward to visiting next year!
