“Great hotel.”

A very good hotel in the perfect location in Old Port in Portland. One block from the waterfront and a few from the Portland Art Museum. Rooms are very comfortable. Complementary shuttle and bicycles take care of all your transportation needs.

The hotel is very nice and offers what you are likely looking for in a non-chain upscale hotel. The hotel bar offers a happy hour menu with fun drink options, and the inner courtyard offers a nice spot to enjoy (when there's not a private event). The location is very convenient for exploring the city and the concierge is helpful.
There are a few downsides. First, the bars across the street from the hotel play music so loud that the rooms will literally shake. Allegedly the hotel asks the police to confirm the music is within town ordinance levels. As a 20-something guest, I do like fun bars, but the music is so loud that it prevented us from sleeping. We also changed rooms immediately upon checking in due to music and the man behind the desk acted as if that was a regular occurrence. (We also received a discount due to the noise on our hotel bill which we didn't ask for, very nice, but confirming this occurs regularly.)
The rooms are nice and clean. They balance between New England charm and having an older feel (with that said we did have 2 flat screen tv's in our suite). Comfortable beds too!
Overall, had the music not been an issue, it would have been a very good stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not bordering the street with bars.

Lady at check-in desk was nervous and cowered away from us. Requested room near the elevator and was put at furthest spot from it. Good note --valets friendly and helpful. Better hotels in area at same or lesser price.

We usually travel with our two big dogs and splurge every summer on an upscale hotel. We picked this hotel because it's dog friendly and the location. We stayed at courtyard Marriott the last two summers, but switched because they raised their rates. This hotel is one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. We found the staff friendly and accommodating in a genuine way. The location is perfect. The bed was very comfortable and the room nice. Highly recommend.

My daughter and I ended a New England Train tour in Portland and stayed at the Portland Harbor Hotel. Service was excellent, staff was friendly. Hotel is very nice. I will most definitely stay there again.

Really pleased with these accommodations. Central location, comfortable room with many nice appointments such as spacious bathroom with separate bath and shower, done in granite. King size bed was comfortable and I liked the added touches, such as turn down service and slippers provided. The floor in the room was a vinyl faux wood which was a nice change from carpet which is often not very clean in most hotels. Liked the decor here too. Would highly recommend the garden view room too, which is quiet and quaint... Don't even know you're in the city. This was the nicest hotel we stayed in during our entire 7 day trip in New England and all the hotels were at least 4 star. Breakfast here was also top-notch, and concierge very helpful. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Garden view a must!

Location, location, location! Right in the heart of the Old Port, in the middle of all the hustle bustle of this busy little seaport. Everything is within walking distance--all the shops, restaurants, activites, etc. The hotel in general, and the rooms in particular, are immaculately clean, and elegantly appointed. The restaurant, Eve's, offers a beautiful ambience--right off the exquisite garden--for a fabulous and reasonably-priced breakfast, as well as for a romantic nightcap after a night on the town. The staff, from top to bottom, was friendly and most helpful, especially the Concierge desk. I am a car buff, and the Valet Parking staff took good care of my car.
We have visited Portland many times, but previously stayed on Cape Elizabeth. No more. From now on, the PHH will be our "home away from home" whenever we make our annual summer trek to this fantastic little city. I can not recommend this any more highly. Yes, it is a bit pricy--but worth it!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the exquisite garden--nice and quiet.
