“Noisy by the road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Nice popular trail but very noisy where the trail runs along the road. It doesn't feel very close to nature when you cannot hear yourself think above the noise of heavy traffic :(

“Great trail for running or walking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

I am a long time runner, and this trail was very nice for going out on a run each morning. It also connects to a couple other trails in the downtown are of Portland. Generally, plenty of other runners/walkers on the trail, so you won't feel isolated.

“Safe place to exercise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

The trail circles Back Cove and part of it runs along 295 while the inner side is along a park and residential area. When the tide it out, it can be a little aromatic. Since there are no serious hills i makes for nice biking and running. Markers along the way tell you how far you have traveled. It is popular so you will not be running all alone and there is constant police activity. there are a few exercise stations along part of the way, Parking near Hannafords or along the park across from 295. Mothers with baby carriages, older people walking, strong and weak runners, and bikers frequent this 3 mile circle. Nice area and one time one of the best residential areas in Portland.

“One side is pretty, the other isn't!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Needed a place for my morning run - and the trail is 3.5 miles - it's nice enough for running, i.e. a proper trail and wasn't crowded, but nothing special from a views perspective. At one point you're near 295 and from the other side, it's definitely prettier, but not picturesque. Worth it for the run, but for views go to the Eastern Promenade.

“A great place to walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

the Back Cove trail is a wonderful area to walk and take in scenic sites. the walk around the Baxter Boulevard is especially nice. You walk are what is known as "Back Cove" which is fed by Casco Bay. The circuitious route is about 3 miles in length and can be walked in just under an hour. the trail also leads to the East End Beach area if you want to go in that direction. There is an ample parking lot at the start of the trail across from the Hannafods Supermarket on Pearl St.
