“Winter Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Just one overnight in this very nice hotel, but worth a review. Our room with king bed lacked nothing for amenities in a hotel at this price point. Excellent shower and plenty of fluffy towels.
Service was gracious and a spontaneous volunteering of the shuttle van to drive us to and from a breakfast spot across town was over the top in customer care. Although the first floor restaurant was not owned by the hotel, it provided excellent food and a wide selection of craft beers for our discriminating friends who had joined us for the weekend. Valet parking a plus, as well. We will be back in Portland and most likely will return to this Hampton Inn property.

Visited after reading several reviews so we were not surprised by the Valet charge (as some have noted). From past experience with parking in Portland, we found the charge to be more than offset by the super accommodating shuttle service. Very promptly got to and from restaurants. The restaurant semi attached in a branch of Sebago Brewing which was a pleasant surprise for us. Good food and very good beer. The hotel was clean, the staff great and overall our stay was very pleasant and a good value for the money. We will return.

We stayed for a weekend recently for our first time at this property. We had a nice large suite with a great view of the waterfront (an upgrade from points). We sat and watched the ferry's come in and out and an occasional tug boat. This hotel is perfect for families. We are an adult couple who were in Portland visiting our adult children; so there were a few things that were a little odd. I guess Hampton Inns don't have glass, so you have to have a drink in a paper cup. The manager found us some plastic champagne glasses that were better than paper . I guess it's safer than glass for children? Also there is no whirlpool at the pool. There is a workout room. There's an internal entrance to the restaurant that's off the lobby - Sebago Brewing Company. The duvet covers are washed for each person's stay and the bed and room was very clean. One evening it was quite cold, so we went there for dinner and had a good meal. The parking is valet parking and they always got our car promptly. Best of all though, it's a block from the water and the bike/running path that runs along the water. It's across the street from some great places to eat (Duck Fat and Micucci's). We walked a lot, even though Portland was blustery and cold. The Hampton Inn was very inviting to come back to.

Wonderful location- nice property- very clean and quiet. Has an indoor pool and complimentary breakfast and is located near lots of shopping the ferry and the waterfront. The onsite restaurant was great as well. Staff are nice. Would stay again, and would recommend for anyone who wants a nice place without tons of bells & whistles etc.

We spent two nights this fall in the hotel, and were very pleased. It was pricey because it was a high season, but we used our rewards and it was reasonable for us. The hotel's location and condition is well worth its price. The rooms are modern, the pool is clean and the breakfast is nice.
A few helpful hints about the hotel and the area.
The pool area does not have dressing rooms, so pack a robe to get you back to you room without dripping in an elevator.
The hotel is wedged between a medical center and a few parking lots, so its not obvious that waterfront charm is just across the parking lot. Don't be afraid to venture out, just ask the front desk where to go. Downtown Portland parking is dicey so you will see more if you walk.
The restaurant downstairs is very good and is there is a door directly from the hotel. Unlike Boston, Portland is a true foodie town, with especially good local shrimp and seafood, so don't insist on chain restaurants and try the local fare.

The Hampton Inn Portland Downtown - Waterfront proved to be a wonderful experience. The hotel is in a great location, right in the Old Port section of town, a few minutes walk to the waterfront and a wide variety of great restaurants, bars and gelato! The hotel is clean and modern with a super staff. Pricing was fair.

Good value. Clean and fresh, quiet location. Nice "city" view room, harbor view room elusive. Friendly, but $15 valet parking. Accommodating and kind front desk staff. Easy 5 min walk to historic bustling harbor and Old Port area, and lots of fresh seafood restaurants. Go for the Maine lobster at the cozy J's Restaurant. Usual free hotel breakfast buffet - skip it and walk to Standard Baking Company instead. You'll wish you had more time to explore this sweet little city by the sea. Lovely in all seasons.
