“Worth It.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2007

I stayed at the Regency for one night with a combined spa package. I stayed in the Regency Suite, which would be considered their top of the line suite. This was a once in a lifetime celebration so I spent a little bit more than usual but the Regency did not dissapoint. Aside from friendly car and desk service, I was a little reluctant of the Regency right off the bat. It did not appear to be the hotel I had paid for. We first had an appointment with the spa (this is not a Spa review, but it was excellent) and the trip down there (service elevator) was not the best of what the hotel had to offer. Once we got to our room we were happy that someone would bring our bags in, hang our jackets/dresses, and let us know how to be reached for help. There was a fireplace, a dining area, a four-head shower and a Jacuzzi. Despite the "areas" there was just one big room, not seperation, aside from the bathroom of course. The room was plenty big, though. Everything was in beautiful condition. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the room. The view left something to be desired, but I do not think you go to a third floor hotel room in Portland Maine for a view.
All in all it was worth the money ($650 for 3 spa visits for two and one night). It is close to plenty of shops and restaurants. However, the restaurant I had reserved before arriving was a bit of a drive but the hotel offered to drive us there and pick us up with a phone call. They went above and beyond.

Hotel was nice but its main feature is it's location. It is literally situated in the middle of town where you don't need your car to really go anywhere. Which leads me to the parking. They charge 12/day to park your car in one of their lots. I did not compare this to the big parking garage around the block though. The young parking attendants do look for tips. Portland offers many many good restaurants including Demillo's.......call for reservation if going after 430. Also, try to get out to Freeport (outlet stores) about 20 min. drive out. The hotel has a very nice gym setup with locker rooms with saunas and steam showers. Try to visit the armory lounge for a casual drink/food. All in all, a great place to stay.

If you are going to Portland, you MUST stay here. The location in Old Port is the best, 3 blocks up from the water front and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. It's located in an old armory, so there's an historic ambiance without being stuffy.

The hotel is superior. I wish there was more than a "5" I could give it. Service is outstanding. Rooms are beautiful. Food is delicious.

I did a little research before going rom the Trip Advisor forums and found out that the bar at the Regency made the best martinis in town. I was not disappointed. But if you're driving, be careful because they are quite large. The bar is cozy and comfortable, especially on a snowy winter weekend.

There is a spa downstairs, which unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to take advantage of. But did manage a soak in the hot tub followed by steam......alll complimentary. There's also a large, and very well equiped gym.
