“Great hotel for a romantic getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

The hotel's great location in the Old Port is why we choose this hotel. Glad we did. The historic hotel is a unique place for a stay. Rooms are comfortable and have a very nice bathroom and shower. Our room came with nice robes to use. It didn't have a coffee pot but as part of the stay they deliver coffee free to your room in the morning which gave the stay a upscale feeling. The hotel had a restrooms site which looked very nice. We didn't eat here but did spend some time in the Armory Lounge downstairs. That was a fun place. I would recommend the martinis.

This is the second time we have stayed here in the last year! Very enjoyable experience. Well appointed rooms, cozy and clean . The Bathroom lighting however was a little dim. Easy access to downtown Portland including the old port which you could easily walk to from there. Valet parking and wonderful service. The restaurant located on the first floor is fabulous Both for the creative menu, delicious food and excellent service. The oyster Rockefeller which I enjoyed was the best I have ever had. The eggs Benedict for breakfast is superb! Located downstairs is an ample bar with lots of choices, comfortable seating and a delightful way to spend an evening with friends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I'm making reservations to visit there again in May.

Great location and in walking distance to shops and food. Very nice amenities; the spa was a welcome treat. Staff polite, accommodating and the overall feel of the hotel is higher end without the feel of stuffiness. Great Couples trip yet likely good for families/kids (no pool).

The Regency has become the hotel of choice for my husband and I when we are in town. We can leave our car with the valet and walk to shopping, great restaurants and other places of interest, or just visit family in the area. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The spa, pub (The Armory) and restaurant (Twenty Milk Street) all offer the convenience of quality without having to go out of the building.
There is a variety of room styles available. My most recent trip involved a birthday party with 8 women. The guest of honor had a suite in which we all managed to gather comfortably to chat, snack and play games. My 2 friends and I stayed in a handicapped-accessible room, as one of us was 80. We had two comfy, clean beds as well as a pull-out sofa.
Although the Regency is expensive, my friend had looked into some Portland b&b's for her birthday and found them to be more so without the in-town convenience. All in all, this was an excellent experience for us all.

Room Tip: Only caution is that I would avoid rooms near the elevator.

If you are looking for a full-service, boutique hotel in the heart of Portland, ME, then look no further. From the moment you pull up to the hotel on the cobblestone street until the day you check out, you will be taken care of like a VIP. Without question, the staff here are masters of hospitality - I only wish all hotels could hire people this great. As for the hotel itself, it is set a couple blocks up the hill (from the water), smack-dab in the middle of it all. The interior is warm and comfortable, with a full-service restaurant off the lobby and a lounge area (with TV) for sitting and relaxing over a cup of tea or drinks with friends. The guest room was spacious and warm, with a large, comfortable bed. Within walking distance of the hotel are numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and everything else Portland has to offer.

If you are considering whether to save a couple dollars a night by staying with one of the big chains, do not! Forgo the loyalty rewards club points this time around, and just enjoy this wonderful boutique hotel.

We live close by but were headed north to see our kids. Located right in the heart of the Old Port. Close walk to everything. Room was great and the staff was very helpful. Finally got to Becky's diner for breakfast.

Regency is in an old armory so lots of natural charm. We stayed in a room with two beds ...good sized room, very comfortable, free wifi, complimentary water, tea, coffee. Bathroom a little small. Valet parking available for only $12. Very convenient location to sites, shops, restaurants, nightlife, breakfast/coffee joints. Would stay here again.

I did not utilize the spa so can't comment.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 224 and was satisfied with in. Quiet, but convenient to lobby, etc.
