“Definitely the right choice for Portland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Stayed three nights - first night in a King Room on the 3rd floor - large room, large bathroom, modern shower. Second two nights on the 2nd floor in a double - not as nice as the King, but still pretty decent. The key to this hotel is the location - it's the best - right in the Old Port area, so easy to walk to *everything*.

The hotel staff were very gracious and it matches the "old-world" charm of the hotel - you feel like you're staying somewhere a bit different - not just another chain hotel.

The coffee in the Lobby in the morning is nice and strong - I didn't have mine sent up to the room, but you can - complimentary service. The Spa and Fitness Center is also above average. I worked out every day and it was clean, modern equipment and relatively spacious - not just a hotel gym with a few machines, really everything you need.

Tomorrow farewell lunch at the garden cafe - the setting looks perfect, and presuming the food will match.

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor on the south side of the property - very quiet street. I didn't go up to the 4...

This was my first stay at the Portland Regency and I would definitely go back. The staff are friendly and very helpful with restaurant recommendations. By request, you can have coffee delivered to your room (door) in the morning, and it was the best hotel coffee I have ever had. The location is excellent - close to everything. I really like the Old Port for its charm. I would highly recommend this hotel; in fact, I can't even think of anything negative to comment on!

Room Tip: We were on the second floor without a balcony and had no issues with the room; it didn't look da...

What a delight on a hot afternoon in Maine near Casco Bay to find this excellent and lovely cafe restaurant under the trees in a courtyard opposite the hotel. The tropical mango and lobster salad is delicious as is the Piedmontese burger (highest protein, lowest fat and cholesterol burger). Terrific hostess and wait service and so wonderful to sit back and sip the local Allagash white wheat beer. Inexpensive. Highly recommended.

Although we booked a deluxe King room for $300 per night, we ended up in one of the older, not renovated rooms on the second floor. Old bathrooms, really noisy plumbing, and a super-loud AC take away from the pleasure of staying here. Ask for a room on the fourth floor with balcony - they look amazing, have the morning sun, and according to other reviewers are updated. The location of the hotel is great - right in the middle of Old Portland, where you want to be. And the service has been very friendly!

I have been staying once a year at the Portland Regency for the past 10 years; and I will now take the time to rate it. It just keeps getting better. Great Staff, Great location in the Old Port for eating, shopping, many activities on the outstanding Casco bay. The hotel is beautiful and elegant. The service is friendly and top notch. Everything you ever wanted in a good hotel; a nice bar, a great restaurant, a spa and a fitness room. You will absolutely be taken care of here. Their are many type rooms to enjoy here, different sizes, different shapes, all good. They are always improving; they added rooms with decks recently which are amazing. They have added a outside eating area across the cobblestone court and under the beautiful trees. Wow! They have upgraded bathrooms with beautiful showers. What more can I say. Once you stay there you will always look forward to coming back. What are you waiting for? Come to the Old Port and experience the Portland Regency.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with the new added balcony.

The room was huge! It had a King bed, pull-out sofa, and a chair and ottoman. The bathroom was spacious and updated. The staff all went above and beyond to make our stay special, especially the staff in the restaurant.

Location was awesome and the staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful. Hotel was a bit worn, no views at all as it used to be an armory. Only 1 ice machine available for the entire hotel and it was broken during our stay. You could receive ice thru room service for the cost of a tip and a wait. Room itself was very clean and shower was great. In-room refrigerator for comfort/convenience would have been nice. AC worked very well. Plentiful parking, but access is strictly thru the valet and costs $12/day.
