It is fresh pasta.....good but not great. No alcohol available.

There are many other places in Portland to enjoy.

“Excellent for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2010

I have tried the dinner menu but for lunch down town, this is a great little gem of a restaurant. Simple menu and dishes, big flavors and a home-cooked feel.

“Paciarino is wonderful fresh Italian food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2009

Paciarino is less than a year old, operated by a couple who moved to Portland from MIlano, Italy. My family ate their twice during the last week of September, 2009. The menu is largely fresh pasta and fresh sauces (made daily). I had pumpkin ravioli with a butternut sauce and balsamic vinegare reduction. Others had goat cheese ravioli with a tomato sauce. For appetizers we had bruschetta and crostini with various toppings. Wines are Italian and reasonably priced.

It was an absolutely wonderful, simple meal. Maybe the best Italian food I have ever had. The service was quick and friendly, the setting spare and simple, and we could enjoy watching the cooking in the open kitchen.

“Superb value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2009

Paciarino is the latest excellent addition to Portland's restaurant scene. Located at the less fashionable (and therefore less expensive) end of Fore Street, the restaurant accommodates about 30 diners in a welcoming, open plan, airy and high ceilinged space. Reservations essential (for dinner) as Paciarino has already received rave reviews in the Boston Globe as well as the Portland based newspapers and magazines. Ask for the table for two closest to the kitchen as you'll have an opportunity to engage with the Milanese chef and his staff. There are a couple of seats for walk-in diners at the island in the center of the restaurant, which also houses the wine bar and coffee making equipment.

Service is very high quality. The chef's wife acts as maitre d'hote and is very welcoming. Wait staff are knowledgable and engaging. Many of the ingredients are imported from Italy, and are also available for retail sale. The pasta is hand-made on the premises.

The food was prepared to a very high standard. In particular, we enjoyed an appetizer that offered a selection of spreads on toast, eggplant, garlic and others. The lasagna was spectacular, excellent ingredients and not too heavy. My only reservation concerned a tiramisu that could have benefited from a touch of alcohol in the sponge cake.

Lunch is, we hear, an even more impressive value than dinner. Paciarino has quickly and justifiably become the best northern Italian restaurant in Maine. Enjoy.
