“Wonderful stay in downtown Portland, Maine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Marriott's Residence Inn in downtown Portland is within walking distance of so much of what Portland's waterfront area has to offer. The hotel and staff exceeded our expectations at every turn. Lack of on-site parking was a bit of an inconvenience (the covered garage is just across the street from the hotel and does result in an additional fee) but not a deal breaker for us. We plan on returning in the very near future.

This hotel is in the perfect location-a short walk to everything but far enough away from all the hustle and bustle. The waterfront view is spectacular and worth the upgrade-try to get room #513. There's no room service but a buffet breakfast every morning and a bar to relax in. Parking is in the parking deck across the street. We parked the car when we arrived and didn't need it again until we left. It's about 15 minutes to the airport and easy to find.

Room Tip: Ask for waterfront room--try to get room 513. It has a great view!

Overall this was a really nice location. Rooms were clean, lobby well maintained, and the staff was very helpful. It is the furthest from downtown of all of the downtown hotels. It is in the backyard of the Shipyard brewery, so if you enjoy the aromas then this is the place for you.

Be aware that you need to order a scenic view to get one... The suites do not have any water views!!! They are nice rooms, but you end up looking at the garage or inner courtyard.

Room Tip: Only studio rooms have scenic views (scenic meaning not of the garage, brewery or courtyard)

Whenever I need to spend an evening for an early morning training or a meeting, this is the only hotel I consider staying at in the Portland area. It is a true pleasure; clean, quiet and very convenient. The pricing is on the higher side of Residence Inn's range, but it is worth it.

Stayed at this very well-kept, clean hotel. Breakfast was very good--good selection of hot and cold foods. Room was exceptionally clean, loved the furniture. It was great to have a kitchen and fridge. The bed was very comfortable. The staff is friendly and anxious to please.

Had a great stay at the Residence Inn for a girl's weekend Feb 15 & 16. Hotel is very clean and well kept and this shows in every area from the lobby to the rooms and the breakfast area. Front desk staff so nice as well as the breakfast staff always ready to help with whatever you need!

The hotel is about a half mile walk to where all of the shops, restaurants and bars are, but it was no problem for us! We arrived a little late on Friday night so we walked to the Sebago Brewing Company for dinner and that is just a 2 minute walk and is located at the Hampton Inn. The food and drinks were excellent, and the staff was so friendly!

I would definitely stay at the Residence Inn again!

We decided to head up to Portland for a long winter weekend getaway. Unfortunately it snowed most of the time, but even with the horrible weather it was easy to get around the city from this hotel.

The rooms are very clean and spacious. We really came to tour the restaurants and breweries (Shipyard is on the same block as the hotel), but our room had a little kitchen- which would have been amazing if we had been there long enough to cook. There was also a nice pool and gym. They take very good care of both (clean and well stocked with towels) and we had both to ourselves when we used them. There is a nice hotel bar with a fireplace and a free continental breakfast. It was ok, not amazing, but sufficient. The staff was also helpful and friendly. There is parking for $12 a day in the garage next door.

All in all the main selling point was the location. Most of the great restaurants are within three blocks of the hotel. The docks and shopping areas are all within a 10 minute walk. Very easy to get around Portland from this location. I'd highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a ocean view
