“Excellent location, wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We stayed in the Residence Inn Waterfront twice in our recent trip to Maine since it is very convenient to the Portland airport. On the first leg of our trip, we had a room on the 5th floor overlooking the harbor. The room was beautiful and the view even better. We asked Barbara, the concierge, for dinner suggestions and she was wonderfully helpful, even letting us know that the hotel van could drop us off and pick us up. All of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the hotel and will stay again. If your group is very rowdy, there are posted notices that there is a 10pm noise curfew and that the hotel will evict particulary noisy guests. I don't know what caused the notice but it is posted in the lobby and elevators.

We did not particularly like the breakfast buffet but noticed that many people were enjoying it so it may be our tastebuds. The hotel is within walking distance to the Old Port with it's shops and restaurants and we did not have any worries about being there after dark as has been noted in a few reviews.

This is very clean, quiet, and nice Residence Inn we have become used to stay at when we travel. The location is a bit far from downtown shops and restaurants to walk, especially after dark, not heavily travelled. However it is a very short drive, and street parking becomes free after 6:00 pm.

We enjoyed the hot breakfast, very good variety. One down side is that the parking is across the street in a separate garage. Why didn't they build a parking structure below the hotels? A lot of the Courtyard or Residence Inn we've stayed at had that. Parking is $12 per night, typical for waterfront or downtown locations. Allow extra time if you have luggage to unload/load, pull up to the small semi circle before parking your car.

First hote I've seen with a quiet hours posted. Must be a NE thing, because the second night, a Fairfield Inn also had a posted quiet hours sign.

The Residence Inn is the perfect hotel to stay in while exploring Portland and other parts of Maine. The location is excellent, it is within walking distance to everything in Portland. My wife and I stayed here on a weekend trip to Maine and we loved it so much, the continental breakfast was great and the rooms are very large and spacious. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about Portland. We will definitely be returning to Portland and staying at this hotel again!

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel before. When we go to Portland for dinner, we prefer to stay over. I have rated this hotel before and I think it's the best. However, after reading many of these reviews, I thought that maybe I was not getting good value. So I checked around.

Parking: It was the least amount of money for any hotel that I found in the city. Although the parking garage is right next door, I was told that they do not own it. The regular rate is $31. per day. The hotel charges $12. and picks up the difference. It's convenient, dry, and safe ( at least I think so).

Room Charge: Again, I checked the other hotels in the city. The room charge was less than 4 other hotels and $5. higher than one. I guess if you stay in downtown Portland, the rooms are on the high side. But this hotel is a bit more realistic than some of the others.

In addition, I continue to find the hot breakast as very good as well as the complimentary afternoon buffet. I have never been disappointed with the service and we love the fact that they have a van to bring you to restaraurants and pick you up. The van drivers can tell you anything about the city.

I would certainly recommend this hotel.

All and all, we think that this hotel is the best in Portland.

We stayed here for one night to attend a concert on Columbus Day weekend. The price of the room was through the roof and we would not have paid nearly as much if we had not planned on attending a concert. The service here was good, the room was clean - except for the toilet which had to be cleaned again as it was definitely soiled on the seat when we arrived. We were less than impressed with this, however, the hotel dealt with this promptly. Parking is not included, wireless is. Overall, good spot, price was not so good. The breakfast was your regular continental, no hot option. My husband did like the coffee available in the lobby at all times.

Rare is the trip where nothing goes wrong -- well, five nights at Residence Inn and not a single complaint. The staff was friendly and competent, the facilities were spotless and in perfect working order, the rooms were well provisioned (or whatever you needed was available) -- they'll even grocery shop for you, stock your kitchen and slap it on your tab -- that's excellent! We chose this spot for five days of visits with family, friends, a wedding and a little sight seeing. The location is great (not the very best Old Port location, but only two short blocks away). The rooms were just a tad small but very efficiently laid out and very quiet. The $12 a day parking garage was a bit unpleasant in such a low density place as Portland, but it was easy to access and we even had a view of our car from our room (yes, scenic, I know -- see room selection comments later on!). Very nice gym, very nice pool, great little laundry room, excellent house keepers, fluffy new towels, comfy beds, big tvs, coffee in the kitchen, good shower (could have used a better ventilating fan but maybe that's a code thing), good closet space -- all the comforts of home. It would have been nice to have a skoosh more room -- perhaps another 25 square feet -- it is cozy for a couple in love though! Frankly the studio is just the same as the 1 bedroom, minus a wall (which came in handy when one wanted to nap and one wanted to work). Great desk, lots of lighting. AND, the breakfast buffet was top notch. However, we noticed the waffle iron disappeared on the weekends (when, interestingly enough, the rates went up -- what's up with that?). Great public spaces as well where we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks with friends -- all the right touches. I must add that I think all of the hotel rates were a little high for Portland -- you certainly pay a BIG premium to be in the Old Port instead of a 10 minute drive away. But, hey, we paid it, right? So, they know their market. Oh, great HVACs also -- nice to be in a spanking new property!

Room Tip: Ask for a water view if you want bright sunshine and a view of the cruise ship docks -- I doubt anyt...

My Cousin and I stayed here for 1 night before travelling to another Maine town. Check in was fast and friendly and the hotel lobby is very clean and inviting. The cafe and bar are located on the lobby level and always have complimentary coffee, tea and ice cold water available. The room was large, comfortable and had everything you needed to stay and also LIVE if you wanted to! Kitchen area, coffee maker, microwave, fridge and dining table. We reserved a deluxe room with a view of Casco Bay and it was lovely. Bathroom was a decent size and shower/toilet were separate from the sink area, which made it convenient for 2 women to get ready to go out at night and in the morning. All toiletries were of a good standard. We decided to go out for dinner at the Portland Lobster Company that night and due to the location of the hotel to town, we decided to reserve a taxi. When we contacted concierge, they said.. no need to call a taxi our shuttle driver Bob will be happy to take you AND pick you up! Bob was super friendly and did just that. (He gave us his card as he dropped us off and invited us to ring him anytime we were ready to return to the hotel.) What service! Beds were comfortable and although the price for 1 night was a little steep, it was well worth it. (plus 2 of us shared) I will definitely return to this hotel the next time I'm in Portland.
