“Friendly staff, acceptable rooms, dusty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

We were in town for a conference and our boss booked us a room at La Quinta. Fortunately, it was within walking distance of the conference and the beds were clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, there was a lot of dust on the microwave in the room, in the corners of the bathroom, and there was some chocolate or something stuck to the top of the desk. It was okay for a business trip, where we did not spend much time in the room. I would not go back and stay there if I were on a trip with family.

Rare combination, nice size room, comfortable leather recliner, great king size bed, accessible electric outlets, flat screen tv, consistent internet connection, and a pretty nice breakfast spread at reason price. As this is the 17th week I have spent on the road in 2012 - I can pretty comfortably saying this one is nice enough that it was worthwhile to recognize their effort, and I definitely would stay here again

We have often stayed at La Quintas, and until now, always had positive experiences. This was the exception. We decided to stay here as we live outside of Portland and had a late evening flight. When we arrived at the airport at 10:10, I called the front desk for pick-up and was informed the shuttle stops running at 10 pm, and I would have to call a cab. We probably would have been satisfied with a sincere "sorry for your inconvenience," but I did not even get so much as this statement when complaining politely over the phone, again at check-in, and later in correspondence with the manager (management here appears to set the tone for the entire staff). In my communications, I suggested management consider extending the shuttle until 10:30 as this is the last major flight of the evening and was ignored (the cab dispatcher at the airport said he thinks their policy is outrageous, and he regularly puts customers in cabs who had expected to take the shuttle). After responding to the automatic survey one receives from LQ after a stay, I had another communication from the manager telling me he regretted his explanation was "not what you'd expected." I would never stay here again.

I needed a place in Portland that was a reasonable drive from the airport and at a good price. Many hotels were on the order of $90+ and a room here was only $71 (AAA rate). For that price, expectations are not high and those expectations were met.

The hotel is "OK". Front desk staff was friendly and efficient. Location was so-so (a challenge to find, neighborhood looked midland at best, few places to eat nearby), unless you're looking to go to a Portland SeaDogs minor league baseball game, then it's ideal - less than a block away.

This place is very clearly a make-over of a hotel from the 70s or thereabouts. Bathrooms were "tired", many walls looked hastily painted, old electrical outlets with new paint or covers on them, weak carpet and room furniture. The bed was fairly comfortable, but also seemed a bit worn.

Breakfast appeared to be skimpy - just bagels, chemical juice and such - so I skipped it and went to "Becky's" down on Commercial Street, seeing as they were famous for their breakfasts.

My room was pretty quiet. No significant noise from the street, neighboring rooms or the hall. A good surprise there.

Checkout went smoothly and the bill was right.

Overall, for $71+tax, it did the job... thus, the title of this review: "Adequate"

Within walking distance of Dogfish Cafe and other eateries (from fast food, to pretty good). Clean rooms, great rates, friendly, accommodating staff. Great value.
