“Fabulous art on all the floors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Covers a lot of periods in art history. Easy to get around. Nice gift shop. Special tour of Winslow Homer's studio and home at Prout's Neck can be included if you make your reservations well in advance. The historic house attached to the museum is a special treat.

“The Louvre of Maine”

A treasure on the hill that gets better every year. If only the area in Fl. where I live had such great works of art in such a great setting.

“Very good "Winslow Homer" show”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

This is quite a jewel in the nature, tone, and style of Portland. This is a very well delivered classy museum experience. The building is modern and nicely designed, and not so large, The collection is small, but interesting. The special Winslow Homer show is both unique and powerful. It is worth a real effort in your day to get to see this rare collection (perhaps just 30 minutes for the show, and 30-45 minutes for the rest of the gallery). The only drawback is that the location is not in the prettiest part of town. But do not miss the Winslow Homer show, one of America's true masters.

“Bowled over by caliber of exhibits!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

We spent much longer at the museum than planned marveling at the artists' works that were hanging on walls in Portland. Works from most of the great impressionists as well as Picasso and Dali.
