“Kids enjoyed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

What the kids loved about this place was that you could run around, climb the stairs and basically check out the whole thing.

“History to Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

As noted, an old historic fort site that was never completed, but still retains a wonderful amount of structure that you can investigate. Parking at the site is VERY limited, so know this before you go. It is free to visit and you spend about an hour here. Make sure to visit the nearby beach area on a nice day. Somewhat restrictive to disabled persons and no bathrooms available.

“unique place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

This is a very old and historic fort. It was pretty weird going into all the chambers but it is amazing how well built this fort is.

“Hit this bit of history and then make some of your own...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We visited here on a beautiful day and enjoyed poking around the walls and batteries, with views up and down the Kennebec river into the Penobscot Bay. Then we walked the beach for over 3 miles, as tide was moving out, and we walked all the way around the point and down the entire beach area of the PB State Park Beach and its off shore rock island, and back. After watching all types of enjoyable scenery and people engaged in life, and with the tide dropping lower and lower, we were actually able to walk over to the adjacent island and look over to Pond Island with its cute lighthouse, and farther out off shore the stately Seguin Island lighthouse. Upriver you can make out the Perkins Island lighthouse as well and better views with binoculars. The channel here is deep and you get sightings of some larger boats. This is the kind of place to bring the chairs, the kids, the cooler, and cop a squat and watch the world go by. A very special place. Hint - you don't have to go to pay $6 a head in the State Park unless you need their parking space or other facilities. Percy General Store is a great place to score lunch, snacks, or more sunscreen. They have parking too.

“Two historic forts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

If one is going to visit Fort Popham they also need to take Fort Baldwin Road and a short hike to Fort Baldwin. Both worked together in World War I. They are both 100+ years old and show it, but that allows you to imagine what it was like in your own way.
