“Wonderful 5 days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Jackie and John, our hosts were wonderful in that they made us feel completely at home in "their home" and were great at explaining where to go and what to see. Every window in this Inn has a view, either with the colour of the fall or the blue of the estuary. Breakfast is substantial and cooked to perfection.....no need to worry about lunch! We will be back.

We stay in a different B&B every October in Maine. The 1774 Inn was one of the most beautiful and relaxing. The old home was in incredible shape and the interior was nicely furnished and decorated. The breakfasts were delicious, the hosts were friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed visiting with the other guests as well. The location right on the river made it even more appealing.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a view of the river.

We spent four relaxing days at the 1774 Inn. The view down to Kennebec river is gorgeous. The indoor furnishing reveals an excellent taste. The breakfasts were simply outstanding - the best we had during our stay in the States.
It is for sure that we will be at the 1774 Inn again the next time we are in Maine.
It is an excellent address. Highly recommended!

A great B&B in a great location. A glass of wine on the back lawn watching the Kennebec roll by is so relaxing. Innkeepers, John and Jackie, could not have been better. Ditto the breakfasts. Waterview room in a 1700's home with lots of antiques, all the amenities and gorgeous décor. We have stayed in many B&B's over the years and this is definitely one of the best. We are returning next summer for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have views of the Kennebec but all are3 nice.

My wife and I could not book our next visit fast enough! Hosts John Atkinson and Jackie Hogg have brought something completely new to Maine; an inn which is immediately your home away from home. Shortly after check-in my wife and I went to the 1774 Inn's Adirondack chairs beside the Kennebec and our cares floated away. Our blood pressures dropped at least thirty points as we observed nature's best with our own bald eagle soaring above and guarding our solitude. Breakfasts were absolutely amazing and set us up for our days' activities on this wonderful peninsula. These terrific hosts go way beyond the best at what they do....they make your stay a memory to savor forever. This beautiful spot will remain our first choice for years to come.

Room Tip: The Woodshed Room with its private veranda and entrance is by far the best!!!

Our son recently was married in Phippsburg, Maine. We booked several rooms at the 1774 Inn, for family members, sight-unseen. We traveled up to Maine by car from Virginia. We didn't know what to expect.
Well, Phippsburg was gorgeous, the wedding magnificent, and the 1774 Inn was spectacular. By the end of a few days there, we were so sad to leave. John and Jackie, the gracious and loving innkeepers, felt like family. They took such good care of us, and were so kind and solicitous--they really helped make the entire wedding weekend even more special.
The view of the Kennebec River was lovely and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. All of us would recommend this inn wholeheartedly, and we hope to stay there again.

This Inn is an ideal choice for getting away from the vacation crowds that populate midcoast Maine. It's a gorgeous, serene historic home, beautifully maintained, and thankfully not too fussy or precious in its decor (as many historic b&b's can be). The hosts, John and Jackie, were amazingly friendly and helpful, greeting us like old friends even when we arrived after 9pm to check in. They're the perfect mix of warm, inviting, sincere, eager to please, and yet respectful of your space and privacy. They gave us wonderful recommendations for places to eat, hike, and visit (North Creek Farm and Seawall beach were highlights), and in general were very pleasant and interesting to talk to. Phippsburg peninsula is absolutely gorgeous, off the beaten path and unspoiled (and yet within 10-20 minutes of downtown Bath). Having arrived there from the craziness of Bar Harbor, it was a true oasis. Highly recommended for those who want a quieter, more local experience.
