I used to visit Old Orchard Beach as a child every year with my family. I've stayed in at least half a dozen hotels/motels all along this beach throughout my life, from right next to the pier, to all the way down at the Oceanwalk, which is better in pretty much every way. It's less crowded giving lots of room to breath, not to mention when you go further down the beach the buildings get "newer" as opposed to "retro" closer to the pier, which means better quality and more up-to-date features.
This is by far THE best hotel i've ever stayed at in all my years visiting. After taking a good 5 year break, I took a trip to the Oceanwalk once again with my fiance. I'll be honest, I did become a little skepticle since it's been so long since I did stay here and I saw some questionable reviews off this very site before I left. But all my concerns were put to rest when I arrived. It was as great as I had remembered; very friendly service, clean rooms, kitchen utensils provided for (not everything but more than many other hotels/motels on the beach)
To mention the issues in the other reviews of this hotel right on this site, what I can say is the murphy bed is not a "nightmare". It would be common sense to have your child NOT play under a bed that is supposed to fall down to use for the night if it seems a little loose. To do with people who might have had issues with "smells" in their room, think about it. Your right on the ocean folks. Moist smells are inevitible from people walking in from the ocean and tracking water everywhere. And house keeping can not get all of the odors out of the furniture before the end of the season. Our air conditioner worked exceptionally well when we visited as well. And the service was very, very friendly. If anyone encounters rude employees at this hotel, they must have pushed them over the edge. Being part of the hospitality business, I know how customers can become, but unless you are reaming these exceptionally nice people out incessently, I really do not see how they could treat you badly. But don't let a few minor problems get to you when you stay here. Remember that it is still one of the very top places to stay on this beach and it IS a very good place. Reserve, stay, enjoy, and leave with a smile. I always have!

we were on the first floor and the people upstairs were bouncing around making a lot of noise! You can hear everything. Rooms were clean but very small.

“Nice beach, great place until you report a problem; the cards will turn on you”

We decided to stay at this hotel following reviews in Tripadvisor. The beach was great, nice white sand. Lots of kids. Room was as descirbed on the website.

We noticed on the first day that our room had a moisture-like smell and kitchenette ceramic tiles were warming the room. We tried to clear the smell by opening windows or exhausting air out with the air conditoner. Other people who came to the room also noticed the smell. We told the owners about it after we had tried for 2 days to get rid of the smell. We never got a report back from them. On the 5th day, on top of the smell, it was particularly hot that day and the circuit braker kept coming off the whole day. We reported that problem with a bit of exasperation since the smell problem had not been addressed.
Initial reaction from owners was to check us out! This was reiterated twice!
The owners said that they did not smell anything wrong , that they could not do anything about the warming floor and we should switch the air conditioning to a warmer position. Basically, this meant suffer or leave ("you only have 2 days left, right?" said the owner).

So, our recommendation, if you like to sweat it out and shut up, you may like the place.

Our first trip to the Ocean Walk was 11 years ago ! We have been returning each year ! It is a wonderful hotel ! We will be returning in early August and cant wait ! The rooms are kept impeccably clean, the staff is at your service, and the beach is located directly at the back of the hotel ! Literally u are on the sand at the Ocean Walk ! Cant wait to get back !
PS- The indoor pool is the best by far in Old Orchard !

“Murphy Bed Nightmare”

Ocean Walk Hotel

This past week I stayed at the Ocean Walk. I hadn't researched the motel at all, which I probably should have. Each of their rooms have murphy beds. In case people aren't aware, these beds are the type that are in the wall and you pull it down to sleep. Since the room wasn't very spacious, my daughter would play on the floor near where the bed would come down. I was petrified the bed would come down on top of her. Not very safe. And the distance from the pier. The walk is really nice the first time. But plan on paying $10 or more to park downtown because after walking all the way back in the heat and humidity, you won't want to go back downtown by foot again. The one thing I can say I actually liked about the Ocean Walk was the staff. They were very hospitable and friendly.
