I stayed here at the beginning of the season for a long weekend with my girlfriend. I grew up in Maine and wanted to show her how beautiful the area was. The Skylark was perfect for us. You can't beat waking up on the beach and enjoying a cup of coffee on the patio. We found a few great breakfast spots only a short walk away and brought our food back to eat on the table and chairs in front of our room. I enjoyed the "beach cottage" feel of the rooms. It's how I picture a stay on the beach In Old Orchard should be. The room was extremely clean when we arrived and the staff was very courteous. It was great to find a fully stocked kitchenette in our oceanfront room. I had everything I needed to cook a lobster dinner, including a few charcoal grills to choose from outside our room. I loved being able to cook a meal for ourselves. I can't wait to go back to Maine and will definitely be returning to The Skylark.

We stayed with friends at this Inn, and it was definitely disappointing. There was nothing extraordinary whatsoever about our room, but it cost way more than other motels in this area. For one, there was construction noise from early morning until late evening. When the reservation was made, there was NO mention of construction work. There were huge carpenter ants everywhere in the room. Yes, this Inn is close to the ocean, but so are all of the others, but they cost much less. And what's up with the shower? I felt as if my skin was being sand blasted! Horrible!

We stayed in one of the ocean-facing rooms for a couple of days to meet up with some friends in Old Orchard. The room was clean, and booking was easy. We've visited the coast a few times to meet up with these guys, but this was my first ocean view stay. If you're looking for a great view, cool rooms and an arms reach from the pier, this is the perfect spot.

On the outside this looks like a great place to stay with the beach only footsteps away BUT step into room 2 and you will immediately be turned off by the smell. The best way to describe it is like a toxic mix of cleaners used to try and cover up something that smelled much worse. Even my 2 year old kept saying "What's that smell?"!!! The rooms are very dated and overpriced. Our friends stayed in room 13 and the smell was just as bad. They really need to rip up the carpet and remodel these rooms. It is ashame with such a great location on the beach that the rooms are so run down. I was later told that the rooms are often rented to individuals during the off season and not cleaned during that time and that the smell is probably from that. I will never stay there again!!!

We come to OOB every year and we've stayed in quite a few places but this is the worst experience yet. We were not told about the construction that is happening right outside our window, hammering and sawing all day long. We should have been notified of this when we booked. At $265 a night we were expecting something much more than a run down room in dire need of upgrades. We are in suite B with a full kitchen and no glasses!! The bathroom smells and I had to ask the cleaning staff to wash the floors again there was dirt and sand in all corners like they were swept into the corners. The pull out couch is full of sand and we had to sleep in it that way. Their laundry facilities are only available to guests two hours a day, not very convenient at all. The couch itself is smelly and sunken in. This place needs help!! On one note the staff and cleaning people are very nice and trying their best to be accommodating but we just feel that if we were able to find another place to stay after we checked in we would have been out of here! At a minimum they should have reduced their rates because of the construction, can't even have the window open in our room and the air conditioner is only in the living room!
