“Wonderful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

My family and I stayed at the Anchorage for 4 nights in the end of June. The location is perfect- right on the marginal way and easy walk to the beach and town. The room was not huge but my family of 5 stayed comfortably in a two queen bed room (although one of my kids is just 2 so for 3 older kids it might be tight). The room itself was nicely decorated, looked recently updated and was very clean. We ate breakfast and lunch and dinner a few times at their restaurant and the food was consistently good and the staff were all very kid friendly. We did not have any problem with finding chairs/parking but we went the last week of June so probably not peak season just yet. We are planning to return next year!

Room Tip: First floor rooms are great if you have young kids or a lot of luggage or stroller. Makes for easy e...

Nice hotel with spectacular views but not worth the money. Totally agree with review above about the no chairs being available to sit on because people put their things down for the day on them and never sit on them. Frustrating. Bar service and breakfast "to go" service very slow. Check in isn't until 4:00 which doesn't seem right. We stayed at a place called juniper hill the night before. Was much cheaper, had similar accommodations (without the view) and provides a great continental breakfast for free! Anchorage is not worth the view.

Dear Dlson,

We appreciate your feedback. We are happy we were able to accommodate you during your trip. We would also like to thank you for giving the Anchorage a try.

We would need at least 500 pool chairs to accommodate all of our guests during the summer. It is just not physically possible to have that many chairs. We simply don't have the space. Guests often get up from their chairs to use the pools and restaurant during the day which is why it may seem the chairs are being left unused. Our pool attendants have been monitoring this. We are one of the only hotels on the ocean side of Shore road to have a pool. This certainly makes us a popular spot.

Breakfast is one of the busiest times of the day in our restaurant. We do our best to get all orders out as quickly and efficiently as possible. We apologize for any delay you may have experienced. Our restaurant staff must not only provide for to-go orders but our entire full service restaurant.

We do take all feedback very seriously and appreciate you sharing it with us.

Best Wishes,

The Anchorage Staff

No doubt about it the location could not be better, the help is friendly and responsive to requests, the room was clean and comfortable, the shower was A1 and the bed was OK. On the downside it was difficult to find a parking spot, finding a lawn chair by the pool or on the lawn was also difficult, the closet was very small as was the bathroom. It is a family place and if you do not mind screaming kids be sure to get a room by the pool. For the $ I expected more. I will look elsewhere on my next visit. Do not want to forget to mention that the grounds are beautiful and well kept.

Room Tip: Rooms across the street from the poolside are less expensive and quieter.

Dear happilyretired2009,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We would also like to thank you for staying at the Anchorage during your trip to Ogunquit.

We greatly appreciate your compliments on our friendly staff and well-kept grounds. These are comments we often hear from our guests.

We do accommodate many different types of guests including families. Some of our room locations are quieter than others. The Lightship building for example, caters more to couples as all rooms have one king size bed.

We do provide complimentary parking for one car per room. We do appreciate your feedback. We apologize if you had any difficulty finding a spot.

With 240 rooms, we simply don’t have the space to provide a pool chair for every guest. We do our best to help guests locate pool chairs throughout the day. Our pool has definitely been a popular spot with all of the great weather we’ve been having.

Thank you again for sharing your experience with us. Feedback is always important to us. We wish you the best on your future travels.

Kind Regards,

The Anchorage Staff

We were booked in York for a few days and on a whim I called to see if there was a room for just one night. Policy on weekends is two, but there was a room that was free for one and they let us reserve. I went mostly to see there sort and see if we would go back. Answer... Yes. Not right at the beach but a close walk and right on marginal way. Very nice. Great photos from here too. We will be back next year!

Surf point restaurant on site was great for dinner too.

We have been coming to the anchorage for about 13 years with a large family group. The location can't be beat, but the resort does a terrible job with allowing customers to save chairs all day that they never sit in. If you don't get up early to put your personal belongings on a chair by the pool or on the lawn, you may never have the opportunity to sit down, even if no person ever uses the chair for the entire day.

Dear Spblvsmsb,

Thank you for your feedback. We would also like to thank you for being loyal guest of the Anchorage. We must be doing something right if you’ve been coming back for over 13 years. We appreciate your patronage.

Our outdoor pool is probably one of the most popular spots on the property during the summer. Our pool attendants have been monitoring chair saving. Guests often leave their chairs to use the pools and restaurant during the day. This is why it may seem like chairs are being left unattended. Again, this is something we monitor. Unfortunately limitations and physical space do not allow us to provide pool chairs for every single guest during the summer. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

Again, thank you for providing us with your feedback. We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer.

Best Wishes,

The Anchorage Staff

We had lunch at their ocean view restaurant with a great view. The chowder was good, and chicken wrap was fresh and tasty. The severs were mostly foreign students working on their summer break, and they were very at tentative.

We have stayed here 5 or 6 years in a row during august and september for a long weekend and we keep coming back. The grounds are kept very clean and beautiful. The rooms are very clean and very roomy. We stay across the street from the ocean side and its nice to sit out at night and watch the people walking on the street. We have eaten all three meals at times there and the food has been terrific and they have a great menu for all.The pool and hot tubs are very clean & beautiful. The employees are friendly and very accommodating They make you feel at home.It is a nice walk to the beach from there. The walk along the cliffs to perkins cove is breathtaking and there are benches to sit on along the way.It is a beautiful place to visit and we will be returning next year.
