My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Morning Dove for a weekend getaway. The location is wonderful! You are within minutes of so many beautiful sites, restaurants, and fun things to do. The room was warm and cozy and the breakfast delicious. I am a working mother who needed a little rest and relaxation and the hosts provided me with all the TLC I needed. I look forward to going back and would recommend this location to all!

We stayed at The Morning Dove over President’s Day weekend, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. We called several places on very short notice, and they were all booked, but luckily, this B&B had one room left. We arrived around 5:00 while the hosts were serving complimentary wine, beer, cheese and crackers – a great first impression – and found the setting to be warm and inviting. The very friendly hosts, Rob and Rich, gave us a tour of the living, dining and kitchen areas and encouraged us to help ourselves to whatever we wished. They had a selection of beverages, reading materials, games, computer with free internet access, and an extensive DVD collection if you just wanted to kick back and watch a movie. Our room was spacious and clean with a couch, armchair, TV and private bath (thick cotton towels) in addition to the comfortable bed and high-end linens. In the morning, the breakfast was awesome. There was fresh fruit, homemade banana bread, cereals and breads, juice and coffee, but the best part was that they offered a choice of two breakfast entrees which were prepared to order by Rob (obviously a talented chef). When we were there, you could choose between an egg soufflé with asparagus and fresh vegetables or some special kind of croissant French toast. We both had the soufflé which was terrific, but the croissant dish also looked incredibly good. Breakfast was a friendly gathering – with different guests coming through in shifts and sharing some stories and laughs with each other and with Rich (Rob was doing the cooking) or simply settling in with the Sunday papers. This B&B is a short walk to Perkins Cove with its restaurants and shops and our favorite Ogunquit activity – walking the Marginal Way along the seaside cliffs from the Cove to town – spectacular views and photo opportunities. We would definitely stay here again and found the value to be exceptional for what we received in return. This was a great surprise find, and we’ll be back.

We booked the morning dove directly and from day one could not get a response. They charged our card and after multiple emails, calls, etc. we had to file a dispute with our credit card company. Do not expect a return call or any sort of service what so ever. The funny thing is, is that I myself am a travel agent and wanted to see first hand this supposedly great B&B. I'm sure it would be great if we could have even gotten a response. They will charge your card the full amount right up front as well!!!!

Management response from Richard1030, Co-Owner
(Management representative)
Feb 22, 2008
Responding to this negative review is a little like shadow-boxing. This review was written by someone who did not stay with us and therefore it is unfair in giving the B&B bad marks in every category. Reading this review it appears that, after making a reservation by telephone, this guest did not receive a written confirmation and therefore decided that he should cancel his reservation. We are sorry that this potential guest did not receive a written confirmation, but there are many reasons why that could have occurred, including, for instance, a small error in taking down an email address, etc. From the review itself it also appears that the reservation was made at the height of the summer season, when things can get pretty hectic. Often a B&B owner who is truly conscientous about attending to the guests on-site in August or September just cannot trackdown a wayward email address. Some B&B owners do not send written confirmations at all. Many folks understand that. I am certain that if this reviewer had, in fact, stayed with us, he would have been pleased with the level of service. Nonetheless, we do appreciate this reviewer's evident frustration and the time he took to write and we will strive to take this criticism to heart and improve this one area of our performance.

We stayed for a short time and found it to be very comfortable, clean and welcoming. The rooms are appointed very nicely. Breakfast each morning was wonderful as was cocktail hour on the front porch each evening. The location is within an easy walk to Perkins Cove, shopping and dining. If you are not up to walking, it is right on the Trolly Line. The hosts were extremely accomodating. There was a little difficulty getting a return call so we could reserve a room but we would highly recommend a stay at The Morning Dove.

This was my first foray into staying at a bed & breakfast -- just to let everyone know. My girlfriend and I stayed and the Morning Dove for our birthday's and it couldn't have been better!

The owners were accomodating for our late arrival and stocked the room with a split of champagne (for free!) in honor of my girlfriends birthday. I booked the Garden Suite, a 2-room suite, and it was AMAZING! Everything that was needed was in this suite. A mini-fridge, wine glasses, opener, personal thermostat. The bathroom was exceptionally clean, along with the rest of the house. We had our own private patio that extended from the bedroom and overlooked the lush gardens on the grounds. The bed was very comfortable and the linens amazingly soft.

Fred & Jane, the owners, are very nice and were able to provide us with information and background of the town. They also serve a wonderful breakfast in the morning. On Sunday, I had the sour cream & banana pancackes and I am still salivating over them. The B&B is within walking distance of both Ogunquit and Perkins Cove -- two seaside villages that bring you back to a simpler time that didn't involve cell phones, laptops, and blackberry's.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to escape into a relaxed seaside village and not worry about spending all of your life's savings for that vacation.

Thanks again Fred & Jane!

  • Liked — The proximity to the two villages
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Make sure to call for reservations for dinner...the town becomes quite busy!
