We stayed at The Morning Dove over President’s Day weekend, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. We called several places on very short notice, and they were all booked, but luckily, this B&B had one room left. We arrived around 5:00 while the hosts were serving complimentary wine, beer, cheese and crackers – a great first impression – and found the setting to be warm and inviting. The very friendly hosts, Rob and Rich, gave us a tour of the living, dining and kitchen areas and encouraged us to help ourselves to whatever we wished. They had a selection of beverages, reading materials, games, computer with free internet access, and an extensive DVD collection if you just wanted to kick back and watch a movie. Our room was spacious and clean with a couch, armchair, TV and private bath (thick cotton towels) in addition to the comfortable bed and high-end linens. In the morning, the breakfast was awesome. There was fresh fruit, homemade banana bread, cereals and breads, juice and coffee, but the best part was that they offered a choice of two breakfast entrees which were prepared to order by Rob (obviously a talented chef). When we were there, you could choose between an egg soufflé with asparagus and fresh vegetables or some special kind of croissant French toast. We both had the soufflé which was terrific, but the croissant dish also looked incredibly good. Breakfast was a friendly gathering – with different guests coming through in shifts and sharing some stories and laughs with each other and with Rich (Rob was doing the cooking) or simply settling in with the Sunday papers. This B&B is a short walk to Perkins Cove with its restaurants and shops and our favorite Ogunquit activity – walking the Marginal Way along the seaside cliffs from the Cove to town – spectacular views and photo opportunities. We would definitely stay here again and found the value to be exceptional for what we received in return. This was a great surprise find, and we’ll be back.
