“Updated to the Current Century”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

During this Winter of 2013, the Colonial underwent an extensive renovation that reduced the number of rooms in the main building from 42 to 28. Rooms that were extremely small and outdated have been replaced with much larger, modern, and attractive rooms. Although the changes in general are positive, there areas the still require attention.
Storage and counter space in the bathroom must be increased.
Seat on toilet should be covered, not open as in a public toilet.
Shower stall shelf needs a means to prohibit razors, soap, etc. from falling.
Refrigerator in room.
Included breakfast includes, assorted muffins, bagels, breads, cereal, juice, and coffee giving enough variety to satisfy most individuals.
The wrap around porch has been maintained,
Beds are either king or queen.
And the view from the upper floors takes in the ocean and beaches fro Ogunquit to Wells.
Staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive.

Dear AutoPartsMan
Thank you very much for your recent stay with us and for sharing your experience. We are glad that you found the renovations to have been positive. The things that you have mentioned that still require attention are areas we hope to improve on over the winter months. We appreciate that you took the time to point on these things so that we can improve the guest experience and convenience of the rooms. Like you mentioned, we do have about 10 rooms on the third and fourth floors that have very nice ocean view…and all have king beds! We hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future and send many thanks again for your kind words.

We could not have been more pleased with the wonderful folks at the Colonial Inn. We arrived without a reservation on a weekend, and were fortunate that they could accomodate us. The friendlness and helpfulness of the 2 gentleman that we had contact with ensures that we will return during our next visit. Having just undergone a major renovation, the rooms were exceedingly clean and nicely firnished with period pieces. The continental breakfast had many more choices than we expected and gave us a nice start to the day. The Inn is conveniently located a very short walk from the active town center, which was welcome. Staff suggested that we could use the parking and pool during the afternoon that we checked out. We didn't take advantage of it, but it it was noticed they were trying to do little things like that to let us know we were valued. I'm suspect during peak season they may not be able to make that offer, but this cheerful staff will find a way to be helpful and do a little something to improve your stay. I highly recommend the Colonial Inn for it's old world charm, and thoughtful staff.

Stayed here last weekend at the beginning of our New England trip. Cannot say enough about how happy we were with our choice of a deluxe king. From walking into our room with the windows open and the ocean breeze blowing in, the freshness of the new paint, linens and beautiful pictures made us feel comfortable at once. And the mattress on the bed is to die for!!!
Great night sleep - coffee always available, decent breakfast with a lovely porch to eat on and rockers to relax. Let's add in the location for convenience to Marginal Way and all the wonderful shops/restaurants to the friendliness of the staff and we will definitely come back!

Dear ellegriz,
Thank you very much for staying with us! We are glad that you found the deluxe king room to be comfortable. Most people do not realize we are so close to the ocean- the cool ocean breeze blowing into the rooms is often a nice surprise. Our mattresses, all brand new this year, are some of the most talked about features of the rooms and have been providing people with some of the best night’s sleep in years! We are glad that you found them comfortable as well. Thank you for your lovely review and we hope to see you soon.

Every one or two years, we come back to this hotel because we like the rooms, the service and the location. We decided to come again this year ( September 2nd to the 6th) especially to see the renovations they did last year.

We always stay in the Family Room section (East Wing). This year, our first impression opening the door to room 605 was: Wow ! It used to be separated into two sections, one for the kids and one for the parents I guess. It was a nice room but a bit on the dark side. Now the light hits you when you walk in. The colors are bright and it's all one room now. They kept the balcony (facing South) so you get the morning sun which is one reason we like this section. The patio doors will be changed in the future I suppose.

The complimentary breakfast is special with pretty much anything you would like except eggs and bacon. Nothing like the coffee, muffins and porridge taken of the front porch when the weather is nice.

Front desk service was very professionnal and friendly. We've been here several times but it's the first time someone showed us the breakfast area at checking in. We knew where it was but still .. We didn't try to rooms in the hotel itself but if the renovations were as nice as the east Wing, they must be something to see.

Room service was early if you leave the Service Please sign on the door. Excellent.

This only confirms our decision to come back here again.

Congratulations.

Room Tip: Second floor, East Wing (formerly Family Rooms section). Sunny and quiet.

Dear Legerwoodman,

We are so happy to hear that you were pleased with the renovations in our East Wing! Those rooms, like the Main Inn, experienced quite the overhaul during this past winter. Having opened up the space to allow more light in has really changed the perspective of the rooms. We do plan on changing the balcony doors and updating the outside spaces in the near future to make them even better! We are pleased to hear that the service and location are the top reasons why you keep coming back. We hope that these things will keep you coming back again and again!

The Inn has been completely remodeled in 2013 by the new owner, Joe DeLois. Joe is a local, hands on owner who greets and talks to the guests. The rooms are large and well appointed with completely new funiture, bathroom fixtures and high grade linens. The front deck staff lead by Taylor and including Dole, Thomas, and Kris are all extremely friendly and helpful. Great breafast and don't pass upmthe oatmeal and muffins. Great location in Ogunquit and a wonderfull place. We have already booked rooms for next year.

Room Tip: All rooms are newly redone. Some with ocean view, some with porches. Pick any room and you will be p...

Dear bleck46,

We are glad that you came back to try the “new” Colonial Inn! Joe took over this place before the start of last season and like you mentioned, he is a hands-on owner who loves getting to know the guests. We are grateful to hear that you liked the renovations and were pleased with the front desk staff. We thank you for your kind review and cannot wait to have you back next year.

My wife and I decided on a last minute getaway and booked several nights here. The hotel had just completed a renovation and the place was in great shape. Our room was nice sized with refrigerator and microwave, and was spotless. The local trolley stops directly outside the hotel and there is no need to move your car once you get there. Also most of the places you want to go, Perkins Cove, Marginal Way etc are within walking distance. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We definitely will be back.

My husband and I stayed in the main building at The Colonial Inn in a king-size room. The room was airy, spacious and clean and simply but elegantly decorated. Very comfortable bed, Everything was spotless and new. The inn has been entirely rehabbed and it is beautiful and tasteful. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and Thomas greeted us warmly. The location of the inn is on Shore Rd. which is a short distance from the town and an entrance to the Marginal Way. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely recommend The Colonial Inn to our friends.
