This was our first trip to Maine (July 2007) and we settled on Juniper Hill Inn. I looked at several other hotels, including chain hotels further inland and for the price and location, Juniper Hill Inn was reasonable and the best choice for us. Upon arrival, we were very impressed with the property. It was clean, beautiful and perfectly landscaped. We usually stay at Hampton Inns, but I'm glad we chose this place instead. It just doesn't compare and for $10 more a night than the Hampton Inn 20 miles away, we felt we got an awesome deal!!
I loved that it is within walking distance to downtown Ogunquit and driving distance to York and the other towns. I was a little worried about the walk, especially for a 3 year old, but in all honesty, it was a perfect and delightful stroll. Being sick myself and running out of breath easily due to an upper respiratory infection, I thought the walk would be torture. It was the exact opposite. I felt great doing the walk and tooling around town.
One of the things that sold me on this property was the close walking distance to the beach - 1/4 mile. Again, I was worried about the walk after reading some of the reviews on here, but it was a gorgeous walk and not bad at all. Yes, coming back is a bit up hill, but totally doable - not to mention the awesome scenery. I'm pretty overweight, not in great shape and I was sick, but I managed just fine walking the 1/4 mile to and from the beach. Just remember that whatever you bring down to the beach, will need to be carried back UP to the hotel.
The staff at Juniper Hill Inn were very nice and professional. I'm not sure why some of the reviews said they were rude, but from what I experienced, they were awesome! They gave wonderful suggestions for dining and things to do. They were also very nice in getting me things (tea bags) after they put them away so I could have hot tea at night. They also have a laptop you can check out and use in their lobby, which was beautifully decorated. We forgot to pack ours and when I mentioned that, they gladly volunteered their laptop so we could look up things to do.
We stayed on the first floor near the indoor pool, and the room was a bit noisy. I think that is our only complaint about the hotel. We could hear the guests above us walking around. It was a bit annoying and I now know why someone suggested asking for the 2nd floor. We tried, but they were sold out and had nothing on the 2nd floor available. I 2nd that suggestion and would ask for the 2nd when you make your reservation.
The hotel room that we stayed in (I think it was 121 or 122) was HUGE, clean and nicely arranged! We had two queen beds and tons of space! A far cry from the Hampton Inns that we've stayed in. I definately give room size 10 stars :-). I also loved that the bathroom was split. One side had a vanity and sink and then behind the bathroom door was the toilet, shower/tub and another vanity w/sink. It made getting ready so easy.
The hotel has 3 pools, a hot tub and sauna. We never used the sauna, but should have. I was hoping the pools were more heated than they were so the water was a bit cold. While it was July, the weather was in the low to mid 70's. All 3 pools and hot tub were in great shape and clean. My daughter loved swimming in them, as did I and my husband.
Definately consider this hotel if you plan on staying in Ogunquit, Maine. We arrived for the 4th of July week and got a $198 a night rate. This was pretty much the only hotel that I could find in the price range that offered 2 queen beds.
