“Great Place In Town For Food, Groceries and Coffee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

The Village Food Market is one of those places that you dream of finding in every town that you visit on vacation. We visited VFM at least 2-3 times each day, each visit was better than the next.

VFM is a great place to start the day. Morning coffee (great selection of flavors), paper and all the news around town is what you will find. We would come back for breakfast, all fresh cooked with fresh ingredients. You can eat outdoors on the patio that is shared with the adjoining restaurant.

We would buy snack items for the beach after breakfast, including fresh baked French baguettes and European cookies. They really have a great selection of local, mainstream and eccentric world items to select from for groceries. We were never disappointed.

A few evenings we came back for dinner. Hot grilled sandwiches, chips, drinks, and salads are all available. They also have a very good selection of domestic and imported beers and wines. The food was always very good, well prepared and the service was always friendly, a touch of local flavor combined with the charm of the excitement of the international students that work at VFM.

This is a great place for many reasons. We visited multiple times each day and were never disappointed. We will be back and will again make VFM the center of our dining experience.

“Great idea!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

This is a small grocer also serving simple take out food for those who want to skip the restaurants. you can get fruit, drinks, milk, cheese, etc as well as prepared hot food or coffee, bagels, muffins, etc for take out. It is such a convenient shop to have around and everything is very reasonably priced.

“Great sandwiches and burgers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

We went into this establishment to just grab something small for dinner... and were pleasantly surprised. Prices were very reasonable compared to everything else around them. We ordered 2 burgers, a meatball sub and a BLT. Everything came out within about 15 minutes and tasted great. The food was hot and fresh and the 2 cooks behind the counter knew what they were doing. Try this place! The food (especially if you want just a sandwich or burger) is great. We even got a table in front, on the sidewalk to sit down and eat.

“Made to feel unwelcome”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We are visitors from the UK spending a few days in this glorious part of New England. Trying to make our pennies go further, we bought a few comestibles - plus a bottle of wine - in this shop for our evening meal. We were, however, embarrassed, and felt rather humiliated, to be asked for proof of identity before being allowed to purchase said bottle of wine. As we are retired women teachers and, we like to think, look entirely respectable(!) we could not understand this. The young woman's excuse - "I check everyone" - struck us as rather feeble. However, everyone here has been so friendly and helpful, especially at our hotel (The Colonial Inn) that we are treating it as an aberration! Lovely place: hope to return one day!

“Everything you want for breakfast to lunch and catering”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Quick summary: this market carries the range of gourmet-quality fresh and packaged items, as well as serving breakfast that can be taken out to their patio tables on the square in the heart of Ogunquit.

We were back in the area, visiting family, and always find ourselves here for a variety of reasons. This is our go-to place in Ogunquit for excellent coffee, baked goods, bagels, and breakfast in the morning. Place your order at the counter for coffee, etc; get your bakery from the attractive options in the case, and/or place an order for a cooked breakfast.

The market owns the adjacent restaurant where you can sit at patio-umbrella tables; they no longer serve from the restaurant at breakfast, and only from the market. Great people-watching. (Yes, someone watches that only people who have ordered at the market get to sit here -- Ogunquit can be a busy place in summer.) Alternatively, get your breakfast or picnic "to go" and head to one of the benches on the Marginal Way seaside walking path, or the beach.

This is also a first-rate market for made-or-order sandwiches, deli items, fruits and vegs, wine, and upmarket grocery items. The catering has always been good and reliable. The range of newspapers is also available for purchase.

The place can get busy in summer, but the pace moves along. The service has always been helpful, friendly, and professional.

Reasonable prices for the high quality, and compared to some cafes in the area that rely more on view than food quality, but charge higher prices.

Of course we'll be back, and my sister who lives in the area is a regular customer.
