“Love Rockmere Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2008

We have visited Rockmere Lodge every September for the last several years. The trip is always outstanding. Bob, Andy and Doug are the best hosts and have become like family. The rooms are attractive , clean, and most have spectacular views of the ocean. Breakfast is always excellent and plentiful. The atmosphere is relaxing and private. The grounds are beautiful and offer manys areas to sit and enjoy the outdoors without intrusion.
It is just steps from the Marginal Way which offers long walks along the shoreline, ending at quaint Perkins Cove or in the Village of Ogunquit, home to many shops and great dinning.
We look forward to returning each year.

The bad reviews for this establishment are extremely unfair in my view. We found Andy, Bob and Doug to be very friendly, accommodating and fair! My husband and I made our original reservations to stay 3 nights in July at Rockmere. After staying only one night, Mike became ill (with the flu - nothing to do with the house) and we had to leave. We were fully aware of their cancellation policy and realized we were leaving 2 nights behind. Later that week after a few e-mails with Andy, it was nice to discover that he was genuinely concerned about Mike's health and much to our amazement, gave us a gift certificate for the 2 unused nights! We were SO appreciative of that and couldn't wait to go back! We booked 10/3-10/5. This time, we invited friends to join us. Our friends had never stayed at a B&B so this was their first experience. They were very impressed with the house and the hospitality of the hosts. The location of the house is great because it's right on the Marginal Way and it's central to everything in Ogunquit. Our rooms were roomy and comfortable with lovely views to the ocean. We found the breakfasts in the dining room to be excellent - there was a warm fire going and the guys were johnny-on-the-spot with the juice, the coffee and a delicious meal. Thanks so much to Bob, Doug and Andy for a wonderful stay. We hope to see you again soon!

This was our first visit and we cannot wait to go back. The inn keepers made us feel right at home. It was great to see how many of the guests were repeat guests. The inn is decorated beautifully and the location is perfect!!! It rained while we were there so we did not have the opportunity to eat on the beautiful porch- but we were not disappointed by the beautiful dining room and they even had the fireplace on one morning. They kept everyone entertained at breakfast and we also had the opportunity to meet their 4 dogs.
This b & b is a wonderful place with a great location right by marginal way.

We decided to stay at the Rockmere Lodge based on a recommendation from another innkeeper. The recommendation was about the view and yes, we couldn't agree more, the view is beautiful. However, the innkeepers made us strangely uncomfortable. We travel several times per year and enjoy the bed and breakfast atmosphere. It was very interesting to us to find that the Rockmere Lodge is one of the highest rated inns in Ogunquit Maine. We found out why very quickly. During our first breakfast, we spent the morning listening to the innkeepers complain about many of the other inns and establishments in Ogunquit Maine. They made sure we all knew how to log on to tripadvisor and give them the a great rating. They told us about all of their ratings an how they are the 2nd best and that if anyone gives them a bad rating, they will log in to tripadvisor and post their rebuttal. It made us feel like we better go on to tripadvisor and rate them accordingly.

The second day at breakfast, we were appauled to the hear the innkeepers complain about their neighbors. The told us the only reason that the neighbor's gardens were beautiful was because a grounds crew came in to do the work. They even went so far as to carry on about how much the neighbors paid to have the gardens maintained. We learned about where everyone worked and how much money they had. It was like being in the high school cafeteria. The food was also similar to a high school cafeteria.

So enough about the cattiness of our innkeepers, because we truly could have ignored the behavior and just enjoyed the stay. Well the inn was very dirty. These men have a victorian style that reminds me of my great grandmother. It is way overdecorated with cheap items on every shelf and plastic flowers everywhere. The porch where they serve breakfast is covered in plastic flowers - talk about tacky. The room was filthy with layers of dust on every little shelf and corner. They clearly vacuum the middle of the floor and never dust the headboards, shelves, or tacky little items. The beds smelled musty and the pillows were like sleeping on concrete. We were afraid to ask for new pillows or tell them our room was dirty because they made it clear that they don't take criticism well.

The lookout on the 3rd floor could have been beautiful. But once again, it was filthy. The tables and carpet were covered in sand and dust and the pictures on the wall were filthy. We could not wait to check out and can not believe that we spent close to $500 for 2 nights off-season.

We went to dinner in the center of town on our second night and happened to ask some of the other people for a good place to stay. One entire table spoke very highly of the Puffin Inn. I guess that will be our next place to explore when we return to Ogunquit. Now it is time to move on away from the experience so similar to the twighlight zone.

Yes, indeed, we will respond to lies and this one is packed full to the brim. Seventeen years in business and you can ask any innkeeper in Ogunquit, if we are full or cannot accommodate your needs we highly recommend them, so why would we knock them? We will make this short and sweet, believe this review and don't vist us or read others and we will be happy to welcome you to our B&B, a beautiful by the sea. Peace!

My husband and I spent a week at Rockmere Lodge to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. This was the first time we had ever stayed at a B&B and we have decided that this is the way to go for the next vacation! Hotels are, for the most part, dispassionate, and impersonable at best, but Rockmere Lodge is quite the opposite! From the time you check-in until the time you leave, you will be able to relax and enjoy the many comforts the Innkeepers provide: a beautiful room, full breakfasts served on the porch each morning, lots of places to sit and contemplate, read or chat, all while looking at a spectacular ocean view. Doug, Bob and Andy, the Innkeepers, are warm and friendly, funny and full of interesting stories. By the time we left I felt like we were leaving the home of family members. When was the last time a front desk clerk stood and waved goodbye as you pulled out of the parking lot, or gave you homemade muffins for the long ride home? While you're there, take a walk on the paved Marginal Way that runs along the ocean, stop at one of the many benches and look at the ever-changing ocean, shop at Perkins Cove, or beachcomb. It's an easy drive to Portland and it's many attractions. And in the evening, come back to Rockmere.......you'll be glad you did!

We were immediately greated by a friendly smile and helpful service and a fast check in. Breakfast on the porch was delightful. The home is just perfect and the views are breathtaking. We had a relaxing exciting getaway and plan to return soon.

My mom and I stayed one night at the Rockmere Lodge. We found this place online and were so pleased with this choice. Our room was bright and sunny and overlooked the ocean. We really liked the lookout room on the top floor where you could see all of Ogunquit. The hospitality was great and we enjoyed the breakfast served to us in the morning on the front porch. The location was perfect because its half way between Perkins Cove and the main beach. Wherever you want to go, you can walk from the Lodge, which was really nice. We enjoyed our conversations with Andy about our love for animals. We also really enjoyed there 4 welcoming dogs! We look forward to returning to this peaceful and beautiful place next year! Thank you for making our stay in Ogunquit so nice!
