“beautiful and authentic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Years ago this was one of my favorite places, I came here to write poetry, draw, and even took my high school senior pictures. Now I brought my partner back to visit, while on a tour of my home state. He is from Japan, and was so amazed by the authenticity of the garden and it's intricate details - like something you would see in Kyoto. We had a lovely morning stroll.

“Well-maintained and beautifully laid out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

It is a pleasure to the soul and mind to visit this small garden every time I am in Mount Desert Island. The garden is beautifully laid out with every corner of the meandering paths offering a new vista and points of view. It is also well-maintained and kept. The benches provide places to sit and meditate while enjoying the garden. The best time to visit is, of course, in the late spring when the azaleas are blooming. It is still worth visiting it at other times too.

“Beautiful small garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Our family of six recently visited the Asticou Azalea Garden, and we were all charmed. We had one senior who has walking troubles, and he was able to navigate the paths with little trouble. The garden is nearly level, with a few shallow steps

The paths wind among the azaleas and open up to mirror like scenes at a pretty lake that reflects the flower colors in the water, giving many opportunities for great photographs, or just moments to sit and enjoy the quiet beauty. There are many benches to sit and reflect...even bring a book and read for a while. When we wrer there, the garden wasn't crowded, so we just took our time, appreciating the dedication it takes to create and maintain such a perfect little peice of heaven.

If you like gardens, this is a wonderful addition to your travels. The garden asks for a donation upon entry, and you can see quickly the money from the donations is used well.

It's worth the stop!

“Restful and beautiful Japanese garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Prime time for this oasis is June when all the azaleas are in bloom, but really it's a beautiful place all summer and fall as well. You will see a wide variety of flowers, shrubs and trees. There's also a pond with koi and ducks. There are benches where you can rest or meditate. Be sure to bring your camera.

“Even the grandchildren loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

We took out two grandchildren to the Asticou Gardens and had them pose around the beautiful flowers and shrubs. As teenagers you might expect that they would object, but they loved it and to this day cherish the summer pictures in Arcadia.
This past summer my wife and I went back after enjoying a wonderful lunch at the hotel. everything was manicured and we enjoyed talking with the young people working there for the summer. The garden changes with the seasons, so there is always something new to see. Take the kids, slow down for an hour and soak it all in. Take a few pictures...
